Fave Five Chick Flicks!

OK Jeanne in Hollywood, now it’s your chance to shine! Next week’s Fave Five will be chick flicks… this should be an easy one, assuming RoboCop is a chick flick? :-)

Post your lists now, along with your suggestions for the next week’s Fave Five, which will be selected from those posted here on the blog. Just keep them clean, OK? This is a family show no matter what Casey says. :-)

Thanks,
Cory

More of my fave five suggestions:

Non Baseball Sportsmen/Sportswomen.
Baseball players of all time.

Hmm, I’ve watched quite a few chick flicks with my wife to aide in the amount of sports she forced to watch with me…so here goes my top 5:

5 – Dirty Dancing: nobody puts Baby in the corner
4 – A Walk to Remember: Nicholas Sparks book turned into a movie, good movie/story
3 – Meet Joe Black: long but I enjoyed it
2 – Playing By Heart: great cast, great movie
1 – The Notebook: Nicholas Sparks strikes again

Curse whoever suggested this fave five. Or maybe we should just title it what it is…

Top Five Movies To Earn Points With A Girl You Like (clean enough for ya?):

5. Notting Hill (I have seen this movie a dozen times. It was my go-to in college when I had a girl over).

4. A Walk To Remember (I really like this movie. It’s all about being yourself. Just a helpful hint for you guys out there: Nicholas Sparks stuff is VERY big with girls now in their early twenties).

3. The Notebook (See above).

2. Thelma and Louise (It’s basically an action movie).

1. Lost in Translation (Every girl I know who has seen this movie loves it and finds it extremely romantic. I love it because it’s Bill Murray at his very best).

Honorable mention: Pretty Woman (Personally, I can’t stand this movie, but I just love the delicious irony of so many girls claiming that this is “the most romantic movie ever”. Um, ladies? It’s about a prostitute. She shouldn’t be your hero).

-Dan in Los Angeles

when making this list, I tried to think of the times I had the highest urge to kill myself in the theater.

5. The Piano – didnt think it was possible to put Harvey Keitel in a chick flick. Man, was I wrong.
4. The Notebook – the only time in my life I ever regretted having eyes.
3. Thelma & Louise – I may have been the only person clapping when the car went over the cliff.
2. Beaches – my gf cried at the end when Barbara Hershey’s character died. I cried for ever having been born.
1. Terms of Endearment – kept hoping for Nicholson to turn into his character from “The Shining” and chase Shirley McClane around with an axe.

BULL DURHAM! This is basically a chick flick, except it’s awesome and has excellent acting and writing.

3. Titanic – Jack come back….blub blub….
4. Steel Magnolias – Women good… Men are bad
5. Casablanca – Love and WWII

Honorable mention is Jerry McGuire – Technically it is a chick flix, but with the sports theme it is tolerable. You had me at hello…

Hmm, let’s see:

5. The Lakehouse
4. Notting Hill
3. An Officer and a Gentleman
2. You’ve Got Mail
1. For Love of the Game

Curtis in Texas

1. Grease (I don’t know a single female or gay male who doesn’t break out in song when it comes on TV or the radio)

2. Sixteen Candles or Pretty in Pink (they’re pretty much interchangeable; sorry Casey)

3. Sleepless in Seattle where You’ve Got Mail waiting (double yuck!)

If “The Princess Bride” is actually a chick flick then I definitely vote for it!

Alien is no way a chick flick.

Very tough to only pick 5. There are so many good ones. How many chick flicks i watched during the 80’ies is a mystery but they were plenty.

“Fav 5 things you’d like to drop off the top of a 10 story building (pumpkins, dumptruck full of bouncy balls, telemarketer)”?

Right now, I would like it to be Bronson Arroyo, five times. There’s no amount of DTM that can properly describe how DTM he is to me right now. Thank you Bronson Arroyo for single-handedly costing me 7 points in the NFBC standings tonight all by your miserable lonesome self. You make me wish Jeff Weaver would come back.

There should be no greater authority on chick flicks than O magazine and here is their top 50:

http://www.listsofbests.com/list/98

Yes, Bull Durham is on the list.

I used this list on http://www.filmsite.org as my qualifier, and yes, it does include Jerry Maguire:

http://www.filmsite.org/chickflicks.html

Ultimately it’s subjective whether or not any movie is a chick flick, but I don’t think there’s any dispute that we didn’t exactly pick a bunch of hyper-masculine action thrillers, that’s for sure.

-CS

According to Filmsite.org, Aliens is the #14 chick flick and should totally be the #1 of all time. How can the Big O be wrong?

My list stands.
