Post-show blog for 8/11

Hey folks, post your questions and comments here and we’ll reply throughout the day. Feeling blue about Carlos Lee? Yeah, I would be too… makes you wonder why the Astros are so quick to dismiss rumors that they are considering signing mlb_us_lee2_275.jpgBarry Bonds to fill the void in left field. What, they don’t think the bat could help them?

Who has more value for the rest of the season?

Luke Scott, Milton Bradley, Brad Hawpe or Jose Guillen

Supe, I’d probably go with Casey’s Fued pick, Brad Hawpe. I don’t think he’s a superstar by any means, but he’s been swinging a hot bat since coming off the DL and gets to play in Coors and in a solid lineup; batting cleanup behind Holliday is especially tasty. Scott has pop but not the same AVG or RBI potential, and Bradley’s overall numbers have been fine but he’s too unreliable. Guillen doesn’t measure up.

Best 3B option from here on…?
Gordon
Kouzmanoff
Zimmerman
Crede (when he returns)

Thanks!

Do I even bother starting Kazmir or Harang this weeK?

Hey guys, just lose Lee in my mafia keeper league. I’m in 2nd place, 2 pts out and don’t think I can win without replacing his power production. Grabbed Byrd and Gerut, but that can’t last. Do have some offers coming in for Lee as a keeper and wanted to get your opinion on where I need to go.

1 – Lee for Pence (countered with Lee for Longoria and Pence)
2 – Lee for Chipper and Pierre
3 – Lee for Ludwick (he also has Hamilton)
4 – Lee for Bay and Ankiel (also has Hart)
5 – Lee for Manny
6 – Lee for Dunn
7 – Lee for Quentin

We can keep 5 and I’d be looking for a potential keeper in return. Have Victorino, Hunter, Figgins, Byrd, Span, Alexei Ramirez and Gerut in my OF right now. We start 5.

Thanks, Rob in GR

Hey guys,

Can you please rank the following for the rest of the year:

Justin Duchersher
Scott Baker
Oliver Perez
Jeremy Gutherie
Mike Pelfrey

Adam in STL:
1. Kouzmanoff
2. Gordon
3. Zimmerman
4. Crede (IF he returns!)

Brite: yes I would start Kazmir, but not Harang, he’s got a lot to prove. Siano and I have him in our scoresheet league and he’s not even in the bullpen right now, he’s just chillaxin’ on the bench.

Rob in GR, Quentin is the real deal and I would do that deal in a second. In fact, Quenin is basically putting up a typical Carlos Lee season, minus the steals. Check out the K/BB rate, he is legit.
–CS

William, those are all good options but with some risks on each. My personal preference would be as follows, although there is a reasonable argument to be made for (or against) just about any of ‘em:

1. Oliver Perez (maybe THIS time it’s for real?)
2. Jeremy Guthrie (so-so team, but excellent pitcher)
3. Scott Baker (good team, pretty good pitcher)
4. Justin Duchsherer (he’ll fade, but I doubt he’ll blow up)
5. Mike Pelfrey (might be cooling off a bit)

Dunn to the D’Backs for 3 prospects (including Dallas Buck)? Truth to this?

D-BACKS ACQUIRE ADAM DUNN FROM REDS

Club sends right-handed pitcher Dallas Buck to Cincinnati

(PHOENIX) — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today that they have acquired outfielder Adam Dunn and cash considerations in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for right-handed pitcher Dallas Buck (Visalia) and two players to be named later.

Dunn, 28, is batting .233 (87-for-373) in 114 games this season for the Reds with 58 runs scored, 14 doubles, 32 home runs and 74 RBI. He leads the Majors with an 11.66 home run ratio, is tied for the Major League-lead in home runs and is tied for third in the Majors with 80 walks. Dunn hit a home run in five straight games from May 14-19, driving in 10 runs and is batting .311 (23-for-74) against the NL West this season with five home runs and 13 RBI.

Dunn has appeared in 1,087 career games, all with Cincinnati, and holds a career .247 batting average (920-for-3,727). His 270 career home runs rank fourth in Reds’ history and is tops among left-handed batters while his 755 career walks rank sixth. Originally selected by the Reds in the second round of the 1998 draft, Dunn also has driven in 646 runs and scored 678 times over parts of eight seasons for Cincinnati.

Buck, 23, was 1-4 with a 3.94 ERA (20 ER in 45.2 IP) with 10 walks and 24 strikeouts for South Bend (A), as he held opponents to a .250 average (44-for-176). Since being promoted to Visalia (A), he made his only start on Aug. 7, allowing three unearned runs off three hits over 5.0 innings with a walk and four strikeouts in the loss.

Infielder Orlando Hudson will be transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. A corresponding roster move to the D-backs’ 25-man roster will be made when Dunn reports to the club in Colorado.

Great move for the Diamondbacks. How did the Astros NOT claim Dunn off waivers, though??

Because Ed Wade is a MORON, that’s why.

Hey Guys,

12 team mixed: Campillo or G. Floyd?
Thks.
NS

In 2 of my leagues I have Lidge, would you pick up C. Durbin or Madson? Over J. Rauch in one league and Balfour or H. Bell in another?
THks.
NS

Is Evan Longoria done for the year? If so who should I pick-up/trade to replace him?

Superstuff, the talk now is that Longoria will only miss a couple of weeks but hand injuries are very tricky; this is terrible news for the Rays just a day after Crawford hits the DL. See if Andy LaRoche is available in your league, he has a fairly similar pedigree to Longoria and could give decent power/AVG production down the stretch. His early MLB returns have been modest but his MiLB track record suggests he’ll get going soon enough.
–CS

NS, I’d probably go for Madson but, like with the Mariners, Mets, Indians, Tigers and others, this could get ugly if Lidge is out for any period of time. And I’d cut Bell before Balfour… although he’s been a little better of late, Bell has not been as dominant this year as he was last year, whereas Balfour has been every bit as dominant as Bell was last year, and then some. Check his stats, unreal…

in a 12 team mixed non-keeper, do you hold or drop huston street? my trade deadline has passed. currently have street, soria, b.j. ryan, and sherrill.

jon in hawaii

12 team mixed vanilla, time to cut Cueto? I was thinking of replacing him with Dave Bush. Cueto has been riding the pine for about 2 months and seems to inconsistent to take a risk. I am doing well in whip & era, but need wins badly.

Hey Guys,

12 team mixed, would you drop Pelfrey and pick up Sonnanstine for his start tomorrow and treat both SP’s as POD? Also, do you think Greinke has moved down to POD now or borderline?

Thanks.
NS

I would not drop Pelfrey for Sonnanstine, although Pelfrey does seem to be sinking back towards PoD status (no pun intended). Greinke’s struggles are a concern but with that K/BB rate it’s hard to give up on him.

Hi
Thanks for all the advice. Tough week for me, in one league I had Lee, Crawford and Longoria. Bye bye first place. I also have Braun who has been out of the lineup but at least seems to be on his way back.

Now to the question. Lot of talk about Pelfrey. Is it time to cut ties with him? 12 team vanilla. Potential available pick ups are:
Kershaw
Blanton
Myers – is he really back?

Thanks and cheers from Sweeeden
