Mike and Cory Preview the 2009 Fantasy Season on MLB Network

Wanted to let everyone know that in the coming days an official announcement will come out that Cory and I will be on the MLB Network March 29th from 8:30 to 10:00pm ET. The network has decided to do a season preview show and invited us to be featured. We are honored, excited and can’t say enough about the producers (Jim, Martin and Micah) that have been assigned to the show. Obviously we all hope it is the first step in getting a presence, but one thing at a time. Please spread the word and invite your friends to watch the show this Sunday night.

On to some other great stuff we have on the blog and by the way we hope to have one more surprise this week that I am working on…………….Siano

hey guys..
I noticed u got Joe saunders in ur NFBC league… so I am guessing there will be a lot of “SONDOOO ” from mike this season on the podcast😉

My question is about ur strategy of picking two quality closers in the early rounds of the draft… Last yr i picked Papelbon and putz.. so it didnt quite work out well.. do u see another putz kinda bust this yr in the early round??.. is this strategy viable this yr ?? I am avoiding fransisco rodriguez …i normally dont get nathan and papelbon together cause if one owner picks nathan then papelbon goes soomn enuff… so ideally which other closer do i pair up with nathan or papelbon… i`m leaning towards soria.. who maybe might last till round 7 or 8 in a standard 12 team h2h league?
Thanksss… good luck with all ur drafts…

Hi Guys,

Need some post-draft advice (12 team vanilla, I had the wheel).

I had 2 OF as Keepers, and went with a ‘best available player’ approach. I ended up with a killer OF, but a lousy set-up at Catcher (and its a 2 Catcher league). My OF is: Soriano, Markakis, Rios, Granderson and Upton, with Tavares on the bench. Meanwhile, my Catchers are Hernandez and Clement. I know Clement hit .318 over the last 78 ABs, but I don’t see him getting much playing time, behind Johjima (at C) and Griffey (at DH).

I’m pondering flipping an OF for a decent C, but can’t make my mind up on who to move – any ideas on who to move, and who to expect in return? I need to pick one and make the offers, as my League is hopeless at offering trades – if you want to trade, you have to do all the hard work yourself!

Of course, the other option is sit and mash, and hope my OF hits so much more than everyone else’s that it makes up for the smaller range of difference between everyone else’s backstops.

Can’t wait to read Zach’s rundown of the listener league draft. Be sure to include many references to how awesome I am, and how closers were flying off the board very quickly. But mostly, my awesomeness. Awesome.

dan I too look forward to that……Siano

You got burned on Putz but injuries happen, don’t confuse the outcome with the decision. I still stick with the strategy because the way I see it if you don’t you will have a second if not (barf) first closer of wood, ryan, jenks type guy and you will spend more time then you’ll care to admit making yourself feel better. Nothing wrong with Nathan and Soria. I’m sold on him now……Siano\

The Clement news saddens me but it’s a long season. The over doing it on OFs seems to be a hot topic. Youre right it’s very solid and you could mash away, but with guys you can find off the wire vs. getting that lucky on the wire with a catcher it may be worth making a deal. Give Ramon a little time but if you can’t make a deal to repalce Clement that you like take your shots on the wire, if both are looking very bad by mid Aprilish then move an OF, for now I’d aim for a Suzuki or Laird type guy. Don’t panic, not yet.

Great freaking news guys! MLBN had a serious hole in it’s lineup without any fantasy content, and you guys are the ideal choice for it. Now, don’t blow it! (JK) Serously, go knock one out of the park. Would love to see you guys get a weekly or twice weekly gig out of it covering fantasy. Gonna set the DVR reminder when I get home tonight.

Boys –

MLB Fantasy Show is great news…so looking forward to it.
Question, 12 Team mixed non-keeper 5×5 roto draft coming up. I will be sitting on the 4th pick. Wondering in the 2nd round if Arod is available @ 21; should he be the pick (presume I will get Pujols or Reyes @ 4) as its expected HanRam and Wright will be 1 & 2. So, thoughts on Arod?

I knew it was only a matter of time before you guys would get the call. I don’t know about inviting my friends to watch though… most of them are in my league!!!

On to business…AL-Only I’m looking to resolve my starting pitching problem and need to consider the open races on ML teams. This is what’s on the wire:

A’s: Anderson, Outman
Angels: Moseley, Loux
Tribe: Pavano, Scott Lewis
Jays: Mills, Richmond, Ricky Romero
White Sox: Poreda, Contreras
Rays: Hammel

Here’s my current roster of SPs (try not to laugh): Big Erv, Guthrie, Kyle Davies, Niemann, McCarthy, Purcey.

Any suggestions other than trade some of my ridiculous offense?

Thanks for the knowledge,

Scotty Mac

That sounds about right on A-Rod at 21, I think it’s an easiier pick for you since you get somebody back fairly quickly in round 3. I have no problem with it. I’m a little surprised at Wright going 2 not that it’s stupid but I would take Pujols over Wright and Reyes. if you get Pujols at 4 that’s awesome.

i am putting my tivo on notice. i hope the march 29th show blossoms into a regular slot.

just a suggestion, you might want to bring invisibleman on the show to have it out with cory.
that would be appointment television lol!

also, is bill hall done? and will teahan earn second base eligibility this year?

you guys rule

Scotty Mac,

Contreras is shooting up my charts right now and to me he is the stand out of that group. Some ok names espcially for an AL only keeper. You know you need help but Contreras may just be this years wait for it wait for it Cliff Lee. Granted he is 37 and coming off an injury but if healthy he will start. Poreda I like as well as Scott Lewis, tons of unknows here but that’s part of the fun of a non mixed. See what you can muster up in early to mid april and then if its still grim start thinking deal.

Pete in Jordan,

ready for Thursday night punk?
I think Teahen gets there for 2B eligibility and who is Bill hall😉 I told you all he was a fluke. That’s why they are called career years.

ok guys I’m heading home and Cory has some family stuff to deal with so we may not see ya until tomorrow. Spread the word bout Sunday!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, I need some draft advice. I’m in a 10 team 8X8 keeper league with extra categories BB, K, and SLG.

My keepers are:

Prince Fielder
Carlos Quintin
Matt Holliday
Aramis Ramirez
Jonathan Papelbon

I have the first pick in the draft. My options are Carl Crawford, Nick Markakis, Kevin Youkilis, Curtis Granderson,
Álex Ríos or Joe Mauer.

My problem is that my league uses positional outfielders so I already have two LF and have to use a UTL spot for one of them. That’s my only hesitation about taking Crawford. Given my format, who do you think I should take? Should I take Crawford and then try to deal a LF later? Thanks
