Tout Wars Piece

Lookin’ good Zach. Wish I could say the same for Matthew “flesh colored sweater” Berry.

Just a quick question. In a lot of my leagues, OF is going really really late. In a ten team mixed I got Cruz, Milledge, and Choo in the 18th round or later. I started going best available and took Beltran, Markakis, and Kemp in 2, 3, and 4. Is it better to go for position scarcity than best player over all? Spend earlier on pitching?

Thoughts?

Thanks for posting, its cool to put some of the faces to the voices I have heard over many podcasts, etc. Always fun to be in a league were the pressure is upped and the reputation is at stake.

Good luck to one and all…and may the best stats win. (by having them in the active roster vs. bench).

So, any concerns over my Staff from my previous post?

Thanks for the comment! It’s nice to know that I beat Berry in a fashion contest. Anyway, I think you’ve got to have a balance. I like to get at least one OF in the first three rounds but it really depends on who’s available. I don’t recommend waiting until the 18th round to take your first or second OF. That’s 4th OF territory. As for pitchers, I don’t even think about taking one until the 5th round at the earliest, even if it’s a legit ace.

That’s a classic POD staff, but I’d be a lot more comfortable if there was one more semi-reliable guy to go along with Vazquez and Wandy. Cueto, Kershaw, and Snell all come into the season with question marks, so to get one more pitcher who you know will give you 200 innings with an ERA around 4 is advised.

Cool vid. Short, but some very good insight into the Tout Wars process and the people involved. Good to see Zach get some face-time too.
Maybe we should start have a fantasy league where we draft Tout Wars managers. Ron Shandler as 1st overall? Is Siano a 2nd rounder? Would that be fantasy fantasy baseball?

With Dexter Fowler making the final roster, how much do you see him impacting spillborghs playing time? Is this something we ‘Borghs owners should be concerned about. Thanks for your help.

Here’s my team, for some contextualization. The CBS draft room has some really strange ADP here…

C – McCann (6.3), Wieters (14.3), B. Molina (20.3), Napoli (27.8)
1B – MCab (1.8),
2B – Roberts (5.8)
3B – ARam (7.3), Beltre (26.3!)
SS – Hardy (13.8)
MI – Furcal (15.8!)
CR – DLee (8.3)
UT – C. Davis (11.8)
OF – Beltran (2.3), Markakis (3.8), Kemp (4.3), Cruz (19.8), Milledge (21.8), Choo (23.8), Snider (29.3)
SP – Greinke (9.8), Vazquez (12.3), Lilly (16.3), Baker (17.8), Wandy (22.3), Arroyo (24.3), J. Zimmermann (25.8)
RP – Broxton (10.3), Qualls (18.3), Putz (28.3)

I’m wishing I had grabbed H. Bell at some point around round 13-15, but there was sooooo much hitting value. We had most of the people there through the first 10 rounds, but as people dropped out the auto-draft went by ADP, which somehow let valuable guys drop. I knew I could wait on some of them (Beltre as the 223rd pick?!!!).

So I got guys to trade. OF is really really deep in ten team league. I guess I can go heavier on pitching in the middle rounds?

Fowler may slightly impact Spilborghs’ playing time, but if borghs hits, you don’t have to worry about it. I still think he gets 450 or so ABs and makes for a solid 4th or 5th OF.

Great team, but a little lacking in SPs and really lacking in RPs. I’d put Cruz, Milledge, and Choo on the block and see what kind of closer you can get. Qualls may not hold the job for the entire season and Putz won’t get many saves.
