Fantasy baseball is stupid and so are you!
At least that’s what some hack writer named Gil LeBreton (below) wrote recently in the Ft. Worth Star Telegram:
Now, I don’t mind that he quoted me, even though the quote he used was completely irrelevant to what he wrote and did nothing to support the premise of his article, flimsy and illogical as it may be. And of course, this means he watched the show… no such thing as bad publicity!
What bothers me about this article is LeBreton’s premise that fantasy baseball is bad for baseball. On the contrary… ~15 million people play fantasy baseball, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the growth of fantasy baseball in the last 10-15 years has neatly coincided with record ballpark attendance and TV ratings. He goes on to say that fantasy baseball players are self-important shut-ins, but then he boasts about playing a computer simulation game, like that’s the mark of genius personified.
Anyway, this is junk journalism at its worst, and pieces like this are undoubtedly part of the reason print newspapers are dying and increasingly rapid death. Think about it… who would actually pay to read this crap??
