Hafner to DL

CLEVELAND, OH–The Cleveland Indians today placed DH TRAVIS HAFNER on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder soreness.  To assume Hafner’s spot on the Major League roster, the Indians have recalled LHP RICH RUNDLES from AAA Columbus.

Hafner has appeared in 17 games for the Indians so far this season and is hitting .270 (17-63) with 10 runs scored, 5 doubles, 4 home runs and 8RBI.  He currently owns an on-base % of .370 with an on-base+slugging % (OPS) of .910.  Today marks the 4th DL stint of his Major League career.

Rundles has gone 0-1 with a 1.50 ERA in 7 appearances out of the bullpen at Columbus (6.0IP, 3H, 2R/1ER, 3BB, 7K) after being optioned out of spring training on March 15.  He has not allowed a run in his last 4 appearances (3.0IP, 1H, BB, 4K) with the Clippers and has limited AAA hitters to a .136 (3-22) average against so far this year.  He wears #56 and will be in uniform tonight as the Indians take on the Red Sox at 7:05PM ET in Progressive Field.

The Indians now have 5 players on the Major League disabled list (Westbrook, Dellucci, Carroll, S. Lewis, Hafner).

Hey guys,
I’ve got 1 DL spot currently occupied by Alex Gordon. Should I drop Gordon and DL Pronk in a mixed vanilla league? I am already carrying Wieters, so bench spots are kind of tight.
Thanks

Is there any reason to be hanging on to Kevin Gregg at this point? Another crappy outing today too. I mean, I’m desperate for saves in one league, but I’m not THAT desperate. He’s still like 80% owned in Yahoo, so it makes me think I shouldn’t let him go. Thoughts?

Also, is it worth picking up LaPorta in non-keeper leagues? I know they’re bringin up a pitcher to replace Hafner for the DL, but you have to figure if he’s out for long that LaPorta will be on his way.

Starting Rotation: Josh Johnson, Haren, Yo Ga, Dempster, Loshe, Danks. If Jimenez can’t get it done Vs. SF on friday, is it ok to cut him loose?

Hey MPFM,

I’d keep Gordon instead of Pronk, even though Gordon’s projected return date is a month later. I’m suspicious of Haf’s shoulder. He had complications all last year on the same joint, so I wouldn’t assume he returns when eligible in late May. I value Gordon’s position eligibility more. You can find 1B/DH power in a standard league.

Hey Dan,

Gregg is worth keeping just for the fact that he’s still getting save opps. If you have to keep him on your bench until he can prove he’s worthwhile again, then so be it.
Yeah, I’d keep LaPorta in mind. The Indians are expected to bring up a position player later in the week. LaPorta is hitting .368 with a 1.142 in Triple-A Columbus, so he seems like a worthy candidate to be called up.

Hey slowsox,

Yeah, that’s a very good rotation you have there — nice to have Danks as a fourth starter. Even if Jimenez turns out a good start, poke around to see if an owner might be interested in him for a player who could fill a spot elsewhere on your squad.

i just got this trade offer. i think it’s bad, but i just need a confirmation that i’m not crazy to refuse this deal. i would get Russell Martin, Andy Pettitte, and Buehrle for CC Sabathia. i know CC didnt start off too well, but he’s been improving in some of his recent starts. i just don’t want to do anything hasty if this deal might actually be worthwhile. Thanks.

Should I trade Papi for James Shields? I’d slide E. Dukes off my bench into Papi’s spot.

Thanks!

I am in a 7 x 7 league (extra pitching categories are HR against and L’s) and have lost all confidence in Brett Myers. Someone has just dropped Smoltz. I am #2 on the waiver claim. Should I spend it on Smoltz, move him to the DL and pick up Edwin Jackson?

Glenn,
It’s easier to get a pitcher then a top shelf catcher plus you get two mid tier guys. If you have a bad catcher right now and are not cutting any pitchers of value to make room for Buerhle then I dont have an issue with it. You are giving up value but there is a good arguement that Martin is the best player in the deal. Remember it is never a 3 for 1. The guys you have to cut to make room for are part of the deal.

bartdogg42,
I’d do it. In essence you are trading Papi for Dukes and Shields and clearing your DL slot. I am down on papi so I take the shot. yeah he may rebound but I think his MVP type days are behind him. He may shock us all but I’m willing to roll the dice.

caribn7,
Smoltz has been pushed back a week but I love your plan, do it. If Myers clears waivers maybe you can get him back but I wouldnt lose sleep over it.
