I’m a little surprised to find that Wandy was dropped in my league. Is this guy crazy or is there something I’m missing? I already have a ton of pitching but should I jump all over this? My roster is: Johan, Buehrle, K-Rod, Papelbon, Maine, Pettitte, Jackson, Zambrano, Porcello and Capps. (Hopefully I won’t have Capps anymore if a trade works out) If I should pick up Wandy, who would I drop? Thanks for the great advice in the past guys.

Glenn–NY

Hi Guys!
I’ve been offered a trade in my mixed 5 X 5 12 team league. I’m being offered B.J. Upton, and I would trade away Johnny Damon and Scott Downs.
My OF’s are Damon, Ethier, Carlos Lee and Denard Span.
Is this too much to pay for Upton at this point?
Thanks!

-Ben

Hey guys–
12-team mixed, roto, keeper league, currently in 1st but only sitting at 4th for HR in the standings. How much ground can I expect to gain at this point in the season, and with the following lineup that I’ve assembled (draft and trades) I’m surprised that I’m so low in HRs. I don’t have any trades left for the year (stupidly used all 10 already). Thoughts?

C-Sandoval/Wieters
1B-Berkman
2B-Utley
3B-Wright
SS-Rollins/Beckham
OF-Markakis/Holliday/Kemp
UTIL-Guerrero/Votto/ARam

SP-Carpenter/Bedard/Felix/Gallardo/Webb/Hanson/Verlander
RP-Fuentes/Francisco/Soriano/Motte (holds)

hey guys i couldnt find you on Twitter. what is your name cause i looked for fantasy 411 and nothing came up. Please let me know thanks. Matt from SI

Hey 411,
Just wondering what you guys think about Raul Ibanez. Keeping up his current pace for the whole year would land him in the first round next year. It just doesn’t seem likely. What are your prognostications as to his year end numbers? Is it time to sell high on Raul or should you stick with him and hope that the move to Philly unleashed his inner-slugger? What other OF or SP (buy-low candidates?) do you think would be a good return? Thanks for your help.

Am open to any opinions. Interested to see what 411 nation has to say, too.

How much is too much for the great Johan?

I have received a trade offer where I receive Johan Santana and give him Manny and N.Cruz. A steep price, but my weakness is pitching (I’m in second, leading in the power cats). It’s a keeper league (I offered Manny and Lind and he countered with Cruz).

My outfield would be: A.Jones, Bruce, Lind, Dukes (Taveras, Winn) – very young and risky outfield without Manny and Cruz, but it is Johan. I’d like him to send back a second player like Theriot or Werth (to make up some speed) – or should I just take what he has offered – Is Johan worth the price?

Okay, I needed to return Frank Francisco to my bullpen off of DL so I dropped my extra pitcher, Lackey. I then dropped Kemp in order to pick Holliday back up. My weakest spot now seems to be at Short where Theriot is hanging in there but Bartlett is available, albeit on the DL.
So, what if I dropped Wandy in order to put in a claim on Bartlett, place Bartlett on DL and then grab Wandy back (Yahoo H2H). Other SPs that are FAs are Slowey, Lester, Lowe, Harang, Kershaw, & Danks.
My rotation now includes Halladay, Verlander, Cliff Lee, Wainwright, and Wandy.

Thanks, Mark

Glenn,

Yeah, I’d jump all over Wandy. I have no clue why he was dropped considering that just a couple weeks ago he was the NL Cy Young favorite! Amazing how impatient some owners are. Anyway, I think Wandy’s easily a better fantasy option than Porcello, Maine, or Pettitte, so take your pick. Porcello’s the least proven of the three and his Ks are the lowest while Pettitte has probably been the shakiest. Tough call but if I had to choose I’d say drop Porcello. He’s had two straight rough starts and it’s possible that hitters are finally adjusting to him.

Ben,

As much as I like Damon this year, I think this might be the last time you’ll be able to buy low on Upton, who’s hitting .389 with a homer, 6 RBIs, and two steals in five June games. This trade is a bit of a gamble, but it’s one worth taking. Downs has also been solid but I don’t see him as a deal breaker.

Zach

kuejoep,

First off, it all depends on how far back you are in homers from the top three guys. That makes a big difference when determining whether or not you can realistically catch them. The injury to A-Ram and Votto being out definitely hurt your overall power, and you don’t really have a no doubt about it 35 HR guy, so I can see why you may not be in first there. But it’s not like you’re bad in power. The good news is that you can still win your league without being first in a certain category, so I wouldn’t worry about this too much. Stay focused on the larger picture.

Zach

Hey Glenn,
Wow, that’s crazy to drop Wandy. Apparently that owner didn’t realize the lefty has 13 punchouts in his past two games, indicating that his pitching hasn’t completely fallen apart. It comes down to dropping Porcello or Pettitte. It doesn’t feel right to pick a rookie over a savvvy vet, but Pettite’s command has been terrible (11 BB’s in last 2 G). Drop Pettitte and add Wandy.

Hey Ben,
This is a gift from another owner. As solid as Damon is, he doesn’t have the star potential of Upton. Absolutely make this trade. His batting average has improved 44 points — from .177 to .221 — since May 20.

Hi kujoep,
There’s not much you can do, obviously, if you can’t trade. Sandoval isn’t a power hitter in the first place, Weiters just got onto the scene and you couldn’t have expected Holliday to sustain his past HR totals with the move to Oakland. Wright’s and Kemp’s lack of power is somewhat mystifying. You definitely have a great team — go with Sandoval over Weiters and Rollins over Beckham.

Hey Matt,
Thanks for thinking of us. Just put fantasy411 together in the search box and we should pop up. You can also follow all our latest fantasy news and notes on Twitter by following fantasymlb.

Howdy,
Any reason why CJ Wilson got the save against Boston and not Francisco? Francisco didn’t work the previous day so it seemed peculiar to me.
-Another Mike

Hey Guys,
Need some advice on pitchers in a 10 team NL only. I’m in 3rd overall but dead last on ERA and WHIP. Can you rank these guys from now until the end of this season: J. Zimmerman, Hanson, Haap, Nolassco, and Bastardo (let’s throw in Lanaan and Livan for the heck of it).

Thanks
KC in DC

Bonderman is said to make the second start tonight in Chi. If so, he becomes a 2-starter this week. I know we don’t know what he will be capable of but would you take the chance considering the hit-or-miss bats on the south side of Chicago? If not, would you put in Wolf, Blackburn, or Mazzaro as your 5th starter this week?

Hey taipelandy,
Citizens Bank Park sure has helped Ibanez, but it’s not been the end-all, be-all for his power surge — 11 of his 19 homers have come on the road. (He’s had 33 more at-bats on the road than at home.) It’s not likely he’ll maintain this approach, considering his 40.3 fly ball percentage is in tune with his percentage the last two years. It’s just that more of his flies are leaving the yard. You’ll probably see his total end between 35-40 — I’ll say 38 for the sake of the argument. It’s not just his HR total that could be impressive. He should match the 110 RBIs he pumped in last year. He’s probably worth more to your team as a member than as trade bait.
****************************************
Hey kageh,
You brought up a few reasons not to do this trade. As great as Johan is, Cruz and Manny are enforcers in their respective lineups. There’s no reason to think Manny won’t be fantasy gold once he returns. Don’t underestimate the fact that a great player like himself will have all the motivation in the world to prove he can hit just as well as he did from Aug. 1 last year to May 7 this season. Plus, your outfield sans Cruz and Manny is absolutely too risky with Jones and Dukes.
*************************************
Hey Mark,
You sure you can’t drop Wandy to pick up Kemp — he should never be available in any format. If pitchers like Lester and Lowe are available, then it sounds like you can unleash your plan. Even an owner scoops up Wandy in the process, you still have an array of good pitchers from which to choose. But why not just grab Kemp again?
*************************************
Hi Second (Another) Mike,
Well, there is word that Francisco is suffering from lingering soreness in his right shoulder. It’s certainly a situation that needs monitoring; pick up Wilson in the meantime if you have the roster space.
******************************
Hey KC,
Nolasco, Lannan, Hanson, Haap, Bastardo, Zimmermann, Livan. Hanson could move up to No. 1, though.
**********************************
Hey Ed,
I wouldn’t take a chance on Bonderman. That’s a team which can easily get hot at the plate, and Bonderman has no recent track record upon which to base his performance. Blackburn is an excellent choice for a fifth starter. Go with him.
Kyle

Hi Guys, Great show, as always!!!
Quick trade question. 5 X 5 12 Team Mixed League. I’m being offered Alfonso Soriano and Volstad, and I would give up Billingsley and Uggla (I have Kinsler). My other OF’s are Ethier, Damon, Span, and Carlos Lee.
