Which side of Kendry Morales & Justin Verlander for Carlos Lee & Gil Meche do you like? Its a H2H keeper league (5 Keepers)

10 team 5×5 roto (Keep 5), I am hovering around 7th, last in era, whip (thanks to JJputz and Wang) and close to last in runs and hrs (somehow 3rd in rbi’s, 2nd avg, 1st k’s).

With Ibanzez on DL I need some power before I fall too far behind. A manager looking for pitching offered me A.Lind for J.Lester and is very eager to move an OF for some pitching but I don’t want to make a deal that doesn’t make sense. My OF is Holliday, Hawpe, Abreu, McCutchen, Rowand, Cuddyer and (ibanzez on the DL) So there is room for improvement. But My SPs are Lester, King Felix, Jair, DLowe, Kershaw, Nolasco (picked up post demotion), smoltz and Wandy and I think losing Lester would destabilize this rag-tag unit.

If I didn’t have so much ground to make up in ERA and WHIP i would be closer to okay with this deal but you guys have said repeatedly that Lester is on track for a great second half and Lind probably won’t keep up this pace.

Other outfielders he has made available are Cruz, Adam Jones, and Jay Bruce. His sps are Beckett, Billingsley, Ubaldo, Hansen, Meche, RJohnson.

What are your thoughts on Lind for Lester? And does any my pitchers for his outfielders stand out as a good 1for1 trade?

Gentlemen, projections or thoughts on Kouzmanoff for the rest of 09? Ive benched Chris Davis for him as Kouz has flashed some power….Also – Kyle Blanks – does he go back to the minors after interleague?

Hey Frankie,
Morales/Verlander. Love Carlos Lee (who doesn’t like that consistency), but Verlander is just 26, and he’s regained his strikeout ability and then some. He has a career-high 10.8 K/9 to become one of fantasy’s elite hurlers. Plus, Morales is a good hitter with decent RBI production who qualifies as a 1B/OF.
Hey Tartan,
I like Lind for Lester for you in a vacuum. But that’s not how you should manage your team. I’ll side with the crew that Lester’s value should rise. Lind is great, but you don’t necessarily want to trade for a player when his value his high. That’s what you’d be doing with Lind. I’d go for Jay Bruce. He’s showed great pop (17 HR), but he is batting a lowly .213. There’s no way his AVG stays that low, but perhaps the owner could grow disenchanted with Bruce posting Jack Cust-like numbers. Bruce is no Jack Cust. Your better option is to offer Kershaw (you likely won’t keep him as just one of five guys) and an offensive piece (McCuthen? Even Abreu?) for Bruce.
Hey Allison,
I think Kouz is resigned to being a streaky hitter as long as he’s in San Diego. I could see him finishing with something like 22 homers and 75 RBIs, which with a season-ending .260ish average would make him a decent play. But look at his two previous years with the Pads. In 2007, he hit 13 of 18 homers on the road and provided a .496 slugging percentage on the road vs. a .412 figure at home. In ’08, he evened the home/away home run mark (11 at home, 12 on the road), but he batted just .226 with a .390 slugging at home against .292 and .473 marks, respectively, on the road. In other words, the guys doesn’t hit consistently well at PETCO.
A quick thought on Davis: Keep him around. If there’s a guy who could swat 20 late-season homers in cozy Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, it’s Davis. He could be a real great late-season bargain after practically everyone forgets him based on his hardships during the first half.
