Hi there,
me again from distant Europe.
I have Ian Stewart, consider dropping him in order to stop him from killing me .ave wise. His 18 HR are nice, however, the Rookies seem to cut his playing time these days.

Id shuffle Alixei to 2B and have put Pheralta on SS hoping for a nice AUG and SEPT of both. What do u think?

With the free roster spot, I am considering improving my SP (Latos shut down in Sept?) and Cecil are my options, I am looking 4 Ks here (since I learned my lessons of not chasing wins, yeah. Hochevar would be another option on the wire).

Ur humble thoughts?

Greets and thx from Euroland,
Danny aka Dani98

Back again!
18 team mixed 10×10. I have had a black hole at SS due to shallow pickings and Jose Reyes being my first round pick.

I had Jerry Hairston Jr. in my SS slot, but now that he is not playing every day for the Yankees, I need a replacement. Khalil Greene, Edgar Renteria, Willie Bloomquist, Jack Wilson, Csar Izturis, and Nick Punto are on the wire. Who is the best bet among them? I have been trying tirelessly to get a decent player in a trade, but to no avail.

Thanks guys. -Ben in Memphis

I am in a 12 team keeper league 5×5 and I am curious if I should trade a rod for mark reynolds I am willing to pull the trigger but is Reynolds going to be better in the future or is this a 1 and done situation so do i pull the trigger?
Thanks
David- In the OC

hey guys!

11 team 5×5 keeper (keep 5, no cost)
i’ m in 2nd place, hanging on by 5 points, but out of first by about 10 points.

been offered Lincicum for Wright (plus i give a toss in SP and he gives a toss in 3b to balance the roster management).

I could lose about 2 points in SB’s without Wright. I can gain about 5 points in HR’s if I could break from a very tight clustered pack and could gain about 4-7 points with help in Whip, ERA, and Wins. Last week my rate stats ballooned with poor outings from Danks, DeLaRosa, and Pinero.

What do you think? This probably nets me a couple of points, but i don’t see it putting me over the top unless i get really lucky. I might, might be able to hold on to 2nd without it, if i am smart about my pitching and keep getting HR’s from my power core of Dye, Werth, Cruz, Lee, Utley, Hawpe, J-Rol, and of course Tex.

Long term Timmy becomes a keeper over Wright (current top 5 keepers are Utley, Wright, J-=Rol, Tex, and Carlos Lee or Halladay). But, I flags fly forever!

1) Getting Timmy for Wright– good deal?
2) Timmy more likely than Wright to help me gain some points?

Hello again fellows, my trade deadline approaches in a 12 team 7×7 Keeper (5) league I’m in the middle of the pack with at least a shot at the playoffs, I’ve been offered Arod for Greinke, I have pretty good pitching and could use the offense Greinke has good keeper value (got him in the 8th round) but due to starting the season on the DL Arod went in the 3rd round rather than the 1st where he would typically go so He’s got some keeper value too. Also I’ve got Verlander and Edwin Jackson who I got in the 13th round and off the wire respectively, so I’ve got some other good pitching keeper options. I should do this right?

Danny,

Replacing Stewart with Peralta is fine. You’ll probably lose out in homers but Peralta’s red hot and I think he has more overall value than Stewart, who does often sit vs. lefties.

As for the pitcher, I’d go with Latos. He’s yet to have a bad starts and puts up solid strikeout numbers (23 Ks in 29 2/3 IP). He also struck out over a batter per inning in the Minors this year so you know this isn’t an aberration. I don’t see him getting shut down anytime soon. as he has only thrown a little over 100 innings combined between the Minors and Majors this season. Even if the Pads allow him to toss only 50 more, that should carry him well into late September.

Zach

Ben,

Wow, that’s an uninspiring group! None of these guys really stand out to me as the clear choice. I’d probably go with Renteria for now (has a guaranteed everyday job and a decent history) but feel free to change course and simply ride the hot bat, that is assuming one of them does get hot.

Zach

David,

In a keeper, I don’t do that at all. Reynolds is having a great season and could turn out to be a very good player for years to come. But 151 strikeouts in 109 games and a .290 average just doesn’t add up. Are you really going to trade A-Rod for him? A-Rod should be 100 percent going into next year after he undergoes offseason hip surgery and is a no doubt top five fantasy player when healthy. Will Reynolds ever reach that status? The chances are very slim. I’ll pass on that trade without thinking twice.

Zach

12 team h2h points league. I have a Utility spot open and can’t decide between Victorino, Juan Rivera, or Asdrubal Cabrera. Any thoughts ? I would normally stick Victorino in there but between his ejection and injury who knows what kind of production we can get out of him this week.

I?m in a 10 team 6 (OBP) x 7 (batting average against, holds) head to head 9 keeper league. What are your thoughts on B.J. Upton in a keeper league? His average, OBP, and lack of power are hurting my team this year, and I?ve got a great chance of winning it all. I?ve got good speed without him (Kemp, Rios, Wright, Utley, Werth, and Holliday all contribute) and could use some more power in my lineup. The only hitter I have on my bench is Cantu. Do I keep rolling with Upton, bench him for Cantu (the waiver wire is pretty thin right now), or try to trade him? Thanks, Damon in Seattle

Hey guys, my question is more philosophical than fantasy, but, sounding as un-begrudging as possible (as an NL team fan), why do people think/why is it (either’s fine, i don’t want to open the NL vs. AL can of worms) that the NL is the weaker league (e.g. on the Friday show Siano reffered to Johan Santana as having to “pitch against those [NL] shmo’s”). On a purely statistical level, NL players top 8 of the 10 pitching and hitting categories (HR, RBI, OBP, SLG, W, ERA, K’s and WHIP) whilst AL players top only AVG and Saves. This leads us to beleive that although the top players (in both reality and fantasy (8 of 12 NL players in your recent mock draft)) many of the peripheral players are weaker. The Khalil Greenes and Rick Ankiels to the Albert Pujols’s. I must stress that i am an MLB fan first not an NL fan, i enjoy watching the Rays as much as my Cardinals, but how much truth is there to the old adage that the AL is the stronger league? -English Redbird

phoward,

Well, it does sound like you can gain more points by doing this trade so I’ll endorse it. Rarely do I take the pitcher over the hitter, but I think this case is an exception. I’m very concerned about Wright’s plunge in homers and see this as a legitimate negative going forward as he’ll play half his games at Citi Field. To me, Lincecum is both the better keeper and the better choice given your needs for the rest of this season.

Zach

frankiejay,

Absolutely do that one. Take advantage of the opportunity to keep A-Rod at this type of discount. You’ve got plenty of other pitching options to keep. At those round values, I see Verlander and Jackson as even better keepers than Greinke.

Zach

Ed,

I’d still lean towards Victorino. I’m not concerned about that other stuff. However, if you feel that you need homers and RBIs more than runs and steals, I wouldn’t blame you for going with Rivera. But Victorino would be my choice…more overall value.

Zach

Damon,

Upton is still a must-keep in a 9 keeper league, but right now if you feel you’re in good shape in steals, sure, go ahead and play Cantu, who, despite his August struggles, is coming off a very strong June and July. I don’t see him as a huge upgrade in the home run department as he only has 11, but he’ll definitely help in RBIs and can at this point be counted on for a better AVG than Upton. Don’t forget that Upton, even in a disappointing year, is a large reason why you’re strong in speed. Still a ton of upside there, maybe not this season, but going into next year and beyond.

Zach

English Redbird,

I’ve put aside your question to be addressed on a future show. Stay tuned…

Zach
