***For Saturday, Cory says “Pitch on Harden, maybe out of blind loyalty at this point? Detroit is
not so scary that I can’t give him another shot. Also ditch Niese, I don’t think
one decent start against the awful Cubs gets you in there just yet.”
***For Sunday, “Pitch Myers vs. the Pirates, and Dice-K vs. the O’s, based strictly on how
terrible those offenses are right now.”

” *Latos coming off a sick start.”
If you watched the game, I’d give more credit to the Giants offense than Latos. Latos was consistently falling behind and being entirely too predictable in fastball counts, and the Giants just failed over and over again to do anything with it. Against the Reds lineup, in their ballpark, I wouldn’t expect Latos to repeat.
Hey guys — traded Rollins for S. Drew and Jose Lopez (we play three-year keepers and this was the third year I’d had Rollins, probably doesn’t matter). Drew takes over at SS for me and Lopez gives me some position flexibility; wasn’t sure about Rollins’ health for the rest of the season. Good trade/bad trade?
Check out my risk assessment of Friday’s games and how accurate (or not) I was on my blog at http://cosfba.blogspot.com/2010/04/steady-stream-04222010.html
Thanks,
Daniel
My league requires 4SP (I have Tommy Hanson, Rick Nolasco, Fran Liriano, and Rick Romero), with option to hold 2 Flex players (any position). My flex players are both SPs right now (Ervin Santana and Brad Penny).
I drafted Ervin Santana with hopes of strong return and picked up Penny in pitch/ditch strategy. Given strength of Penny’s start, track record of Dave Duncan, and strength of Cardinals line-up, would you still consider Penny pitch/ditch? Maybe Santana is pitch/ditch?
Also, I just picked up Kyle Blanks for his upside. Chris Coghlan is available on waiver wire. Should I dump Blanks to pick up Coghlan or do you think with my top 4 SPs, I can get away with dumping Penny or Santana to make that pick-up? My other OF are Victorino, Frank Guetierez, Hunter Pence, Ryan Ludwick, Connor Jackson.
onyxdr,
You’re either going to feel pretty smart about this trade, or regret it completely. Drew is having a nice rebound year and is putting up numbers closer to his 2008 campaign than 2009. It even looks like he’s learned how to control the strike zone as his walk rate has spiked. But I need to see more. Until he got hurt, Rollins looked like he put that abomination of a 2009 season behind him. Plus, you have to add in the facts that he has a far more explosive, consistent lineup behind him and Rollins doesn’t have to face the likes of Lincecum, Cain, Jimenez or Billingsley nearly as often as Drew. Lopez is nice, especially considering the dual 2B/3B eligibility, but I think you might have made a mistake letting Rollins get away.
Mike E.
I’m looking for the best starter this week for my 5th SP. I have Marcum in right now at home against BOS and at home again vs OAK. I have Slowey and Zito on the bench each with one start weeks. Am I making the right decision here? Im just trying not to get negative points out of my 5th spot since my rotation is pretty tight with Halladay, Johan, Burnett, Hughes. Looking to go 4-0 this week!
dcanada,
I see both Penny and Erv as high-end pitch or ditch guys right now with Penny’s stock obviously rising and Santana’s falling. Would still pick Santana over Penny but definitely losing faith in Erv. Continue to play both based on matchups but Penny is getting awfully close to being a pitch or ditch graduate. AS for your other question, I’d usually dump the pitcher but Erv and Penny are worth hanging onto at least for another few days. I’d actually drop Jackson to make the Coghlan pickup. Conor is just too injury-prone for my liking.

Ed,
Yeah, I’m fine with that. It’s tempting to throw Zito out there the way he’s pitching right now but Marcum’s two-start status makes a huge difference. He’s also racking up strikeouts at a solid rate.
