Pitch or Ditch for Wednesday, June 16

Pitch
or Ditch is a strategy for (ideally) daily mixed leagues in which you
pick up
starters on a day-to-day basis based on how well they are pitching and
their
upcoming matchups, then cut them in favor of new guys the next guy. The
concept
is that the shallower the league, the more quality starting pitching is
available on the free agent wire, so rather than drafting expensive
starters,
it’s better to build a strong offense and bullpen and let the free agent
wire
populate your starting staff during the season. As a bonus, a handful of
“PoD”
guys emerge each year as worth keeping all year long, like Jair Jurrjens
last
year or Cliff Lee in ’08.

5×5 roto keeper where we keep 4 hitters.

My hitters are Posey, Wieters, Votto, A Hill, Uribe, Wright, B Up, J Up, Stanton, Swisher, Glaus, Ellsbury.

My Closers are Jenks, Wood, Qualls, Meek, Gregerson.

I have been offered the following deal: I give A Hill and Wieters and I get Pedroia and Heilman. Should I accept?

Also, who’s the better SS going forward for the year? S Drew or Uribe?

Thanks as always,

maysways,

I love that trade for you. Wieters wouldn’t even be a keeper in this format while Pedroia most certainly will be. Dustin’s also a clear upgrade over Hill at 2B. You still have a few too many keeper hitter candidates so at some point down the road you might want to explore a 2-for-1 deal where you’d be trading multiple solid keepers for one stud keeper.

As for Uribe vs. Drew, long-term (beyond this year) I like Drew but for 2010 you’ve got to give Uribe the respect he deserves. There’s a point where a fast start turns into a great season and Uribe is rapidly approaching that point.

Thoughts please Fellas,
12 team, Vanilla head to head keeper league…Pedro Alvarez is available and I am toying with the idea to grab him. 3rd basemen are Zimmerman (everyday) , Jose Bautista and Alberto Callaspo. I have been using Alberto as my back up 2nd base and backup outfielder is flip flop of Cuddyer and Bautista. I am possibly thinking to drop Cuddyer as I happen to have Pujols camped at 1st.

I am in 2nd and unfortunatly have an itchy trigger finger on young phenoms…I also have Stanton and Strasburg.

Cheers,
G

G,

I’d absolutely look to pick up Alvarez in any keeper league but there has to be someone else you could drop besides Cuddyer…maybe a pitcher? If not a pitcher, I’d actually rather drop the ice cold Bautista than Cuddyer.
