Pitch or Ditch for Saturday-Monday, July 24-26
Pitch
or Ditch is a strategy for (ideally) daily mixed leagues in which you
pick up
starters on a day-to-day basis based on how well they are pitching and
their
upcoming matchups, then cut them in favor of new guys the next guy. The
concept
is that the shallower the league, the more quality starting pitching is
available on the free agent wire, so rather than drafting expensive
starters,
it’s better to build a strong offense and bullpen and let the free agent
wire
populate your starting staff during the season. As a bonus, a handful of
“PoD”
guys emerge each year as worth keeping all year long, like Jair Jurrjens
last
year or Cliff Lee in ’08.

Friday PoD
Burnett Pitch-you must be kidding. I know it is KC, I know he plays for the yankees but his last 10 starts.
His k/bb ratio is progressively getting worse
ERA over 6
whip over 1.5
Wins=3 (two were in MAY)
loses =6 (SIX)
Two of the losses were to Orioles & D-backs.
In the PoD chart you have him listed as PoD but the only times you guys have not recommended him was against Toronto and this was really the only decent outing he had other then his win against Oakland in Oakland. It sure seems that you all are treating him as a grad when he should be DTM. I think he is headed to the DL!
Sorry I had to rant!
I feel better now
PD
suprise ‘no’ on mazzaro/sat, cory
….and suprised on Medlen too
Interested in making a swap from Boesch to Stanton. Is the book out on Brennan or is this just his first slump? I like what i see from Stanton lately, decreasing BB/K rate, putting more balls in the air. Boesch seems to be pressing, is his 15 minutes over?
Would you advise dropping Casey McGehee for Dan Uggla? I am in a H2H league. Casey has been in a bit of a slump (4 for 32), but I am confident he will turn it around. However, I am leaning towards Uggla regarding total fantasy points. Thoughts?
Should i get Neftali Feliz or should i get Leo Nunez and should i drop ryan dempster or phil hughes?
Hey Big Z got a question for ya for my 12 teamer. Am looking good in pitching cats (9-11 pts in all but whip) but still struggling with the non-power hitting stats (4-6 pts in AV,runs, steals).
I have 7 starters (inc Dice-k and Morrow in PoD spots) and only 1 bench hitting spot, should I change my strat now to cut another pitcher or two on mon and thurs and pick up some more bats to get some more counting offensive stats? And if so are Dice-K and Morrow expendable as they are still inconsistent?
And Yes it is Big Barry above, keep forgetting!
Is there any chance at all Kershaw misses his start this week due to his looming suspension?
dmestre,
Mike and Cory are planning on answering your question on today’s show, but in my opinion as long as this is a non-keeper I wouldn’t make the trade. Boesch has struggled of late but I’d rather go with his larger sample size of quality production than Stanton’s inconsistency…he’s hitting homers but the AVG is unimpressive. Long-term, Stanton’s the better option, but for 2010 I’ll take my chances with Boesch.

Alex,
Yes, I’d definitely choose Uggla over McGehee. He’s got the more extensive track record of elite power production at the thin 2B position and is in the midst of a stellar season.

xanderayash,
I prefer Feliz over Nunez but neither of these guys should be available in pretty much any format, so why not pick up both? As for Dempster vs. Hughes, go with Dempster. The Yankees will likely limit Hughes’ innings down the stretch and may even move him to the bullpen should they acquire another starting pitcher before the trade deadline. Dempster is the safer choice.

Big Barry,
Just answered your question on the other post.
