Pitch or Ditch for Saturday-Monday, August 14-16
Pitch
or Ditch is a strategy for (ideally) daily mixed leagues in which you
pick up
starters on a day-to-day basis based on how well they are pitching and
their
upcoming matchups, then cut them in favor of new guys the next day. The
concept
is that the shallower the league, the more quality starting pitching is
available on the free agent wire, so rather than drafting expensive
starters,
it’s better to build a strong offense and bullpen and let the free agent
wire
populate your starting staff during the season. As a bonus, a handful of
“PoD”
guys emerge each year as worth keeping all year long, like Jair Jurrjens
last
year or Cliff Lee in ’08.

OK for deeper leagues but I’m leery

I have three related questions, on an 8 team, 25 man roster keeper league: 1. Who should I keep at catcher, Buster Posey, or Victor Martinez? Should this be considered simply an off year for Martinez and an unproven year for an up and comer? Or the beginning of the end for Martinez and an opportunity to grab Posey? 2. I have acquired Zimmerman, Young, and Reynolds at third, who should I stick with? We are only allowed to keep ten players, so I prefer to keep only one roster spot per position, however, 3. With such thin depth at third and catcher, would it be advantageous to keep more than one and possibly trade next year? Thanks.
Hey! Been trying to get a starter. Pitching categories: IP,W,L,SV,Holds,K,WHIP,ERA. Batting categories: Runs,Hits,2B,3B,HR,RBI,SB,AVG,OBP.
Got an offer: I get Buchholz while giving up Gardner and Mike Adams. Fair or should I reject this?
He’s in first place while I’m in third.
Thanks!
Hello guys,
Would you stick with Shields and Marcum the rest of the season? They had killed my ERA lately. Personally i think i’ll give one more chance to Marcum, but Shields should be DTM.
Thoughts?
nyy,
That’s a totally fair deal and one worth accepting, particularly if you have other decent speed options outside of Gardner.

mfridzon,
Yeah, I think Marcum deserves another start before we can consider demoting him from graduate to POD status but Shields has been maddeningly inconsistent for awhile now. That said, unless there are particularly appealing options on the wire, I’d hold onto Shields for the time being but he should be benched.

Jurrjens pitched yesterday and Wandy is going against Niese today (Monday)
