Pitch
or Ditch is a strategy for (ideally) daily mixed leagues in which you
pick up
starters on a day-to-day basis based on how well they are pitching and
their
upcoming matchups, then cut them in favor of new guys the next day. The
concept
is that the shallower the league, the more quality starting pitching is
available on the free agent wire, so rather than drafting expensive
starters,
it’s better to build a strong offense and bullpen and let the free agent
wire
populate your starting staff during the season. As a bonus, a handful of
“PoD”
guys emerge each year as worth keeping all year long, like Jair Jurrjens
last
year or Cliff Lee in ’08.

I’d still take Zobrist over Castro but would hold onto Castro regardless. The bigger question in my mind is why exactly do you “need” to pick up D. Hudson with guys like Beckett and Myers at the back of your rotation? In a league with this much SP depth, I don’t think it’s that important to stockpile your roster with starters.

What’s up guys? I need to pick up D Hudson, but I am stumped on who to drop. I just picked up Castro to play for Zobrist (killing my avg), but now Zobrist hits a couple HRs. Should I settle on one or the other? I have Beckett & Myers at the end of my rotation and Ryan Raburn who I would like to ride for the rest of the year. Who would be the odd man out for you? Do you like Zobrist or Castro more the rest of the way?
I have two power guys (L. Scott & Quentin) taking up some much needed avg points and am looking to drop one for LoMo… Been watching him since the day he was called up and it seems now that both of my sluggers have regressed to not doing much during my H2H playoffs, I think I need to make the move now. Can sacrifice the power from either for the hits and XBH LoMo provides..
Thank you all for helping me make it to the playoffs with this week as a bye. I had to drop Nolasco and now I need another pitcher or two for next week. My choices are Narveson or Duensing (who both look to pitch twice next week), Chacin, Marcum, Floyd, De La Rosa, Cecil or Porcello. I presently have Jimenez, Hughes, Jaime Garcia, Myers, Hudson, Scherzer, and Wilson as my other pitchers.
Now who do I drop: Burrell, who is backing up Aubrey Huff as my DH, Barlett who is backing up Drew at s/s, or David Murphy who is backing up CarGo, Chris Young, Delmon Young and Austin Jackson as my outfield? Thanks again for all your help. AL

Pretty much out of it this year in a keeper league, where we keep 5 no limits, unless I get serious offensive help. But somebody has offered me Car-Go for pitching and SB’s and asked me what I would give up for him. So who should I hold on and keep and who should I trade away to try and get him. My potential keeper are Miggy, J-Roll, McGehee, BJ Upton, Rios, Rasmus, Bay, Chapman, CC, Hamels, Price, D Hudson & Mariano Rivera. Also something to bear in mind is I have used up my innings limit and can’t get anymore pitching stats.

Yeah, I’m fine with that. I’d probably drop Quentin over Scott with Carlos’ inconsistent AVG serving as the deciding factor.

What are the matchups? All of those pitchers are quality options so a lot depends on who they’re facing, but generally speaking my top choices would be Duensing (for the two-start week), Marcum, Floyd and Cecil. I’d also consider dumping the struggling Hughes for one of those SPs and don’t really see the point in carrying Burrell as a DH backup. Right now, it’s more important to hold onto as many pitchers as possible than it is to own a backup at every offensive position.

I’d package any two (and maybe even three) of those players outside of Miggy to get Car-Go. This is a perfect example of the strategy of trading away multiple good keepers in order to get one great one, and in your case it makes a lot of sense.
