Pitch or Ditch for Tuesday, September 14
Pitch
or Ditch is a strategy for (ideally) daily mixed leagues in which you
pick up
starters on a day-to-day basis based on how well they are pitching and
their
upcoming matchups, then cut them in favor of new guys the next day. The
concept
is that the shallower the league, the more quality starting pitching is
available on the free agent wire, so rather than drafting expensive
starters,
it’s better to build a strong offense and bullpen and let the free agent
wire
populate your starting staff during the season. As a bonus, a handful of
“PoD”
guys emerge each year as worth keeping all year long, like Jair Jurrjens
last
year or Cliff Lee in ’08.

Kazmir @
Tomlin – Kazmir pitching a little better of late but I still don’t trust him.
S. Hill @
Arrieta
Nova @
Garza – Nova risky play here…pitch only if you’re chasing wins.
Bonderman @ Holland
Liriano @
Danks
Gonzalez @
Greinke – Gio red hot…7-2 2.23 ERA 1.07 WHIP since All-Star break.
Matsuzaka @
French – Dice-K struggling but gotta like this matchup.
D. Hudson @ Wood
Hamels @
Mendez
Duke @
Dickey
Livan @
Jurrjens – Livan: 5 or more ER in three of his last four starts.
Capuano @
Norris
Wells @
Wainwright
Garland @
Hammel – Not the time or place to gamble on Garland.
Kershaw @
Zito – I like Zito at home vs. inconsistent L.A. lineup.

Hey Guys,
I have both Gonzalez and Danks to throw tomorrow. I have about 150 innings left and my WHIP and ERA have taken a bit of a beating lately. I am third in wins and second in saves in a 5×5 roto but the wins are close. Danks makes me especially nervous here. Should I throw them both here?
Thanks for the help,
Vande
in the same boat abot 150 ip left i have danks and dice. currently leading whip by .28, 2nd in era by about .5 (up on 3rd) and k’s change daily but i’m in the top 4. i need to maximize the k’s and while i’m not as concerned about era and whip i certainly don’t want to blow it up either. watching lester dominate sea is making me want to pitch dice but how many times do you see a team get shut down then explode the next day… what would you do in my shoes?
thx jeff in c-town
Hi Guys,
need some PoD advice: can choose between Floyd, Porcello and Minor, would drop Perry (RP), since I dont see any SVs this week here (do u?).
I need them Ws – my opponent is also PoDing in a very heavy manner.
Should I do it? Again: Many THX 2 u.
Danny, out of Munich
Vande,
If you’re going to sit one it should be Danks as Gio is a no-brainer in my mind. But 150 innings is still a decent amount so I’d start both. Note Danks’ 3.34 ERA and 1.06 WHIP at home this year.

Jeff,
I’d start both. At this point in the season and with those leads, the chances of you losing points in ERA and WHIP are remote and the M’s lineup is flat out awful. Roll the dice (no pun intended) on Matsuzaka.

Danny,
Yeah, I’d do that and would go with Floyd.
Zach
Fellas,
i’ve been offered King Felix for Axford. standard 5×5 league. i also have 3 other losers. Salas, Soria, & Perez. My starters are Niemann, EJax, Fatolo, Marcum, Hellickson,&Harrison. i think i know my answer? whatya”ll think ………….?
Thanks for your time
