Pitch or Ditch for Friday, September 17

Pitch
or Ditch is a strategy for (ideally) daily mixed leagues in which you
pick up
starters on a day-to-day basis based on how well they are pitching and
their
upcoming matchups, then cut them in favor of new guys the next day. The
concept
is that the shallower the league, the more quality starting pitching is
available on the free agent wire, so rather than drafting expensive
starters,
it’s better to build a strong offense and bullpen and let the free agent
wire
populate your starting staff during the season. As a bonus, a handful of
“PoD”
guys emerge each year as worth keeping all year long, like Jair Jurrjens
last
year or Cliff Lee in ’08.

ZACH’S PICKS

Burnett @
Millwood – Promising matchup for Burnett but there are much better ways to use your remaining innings.

Haren @ Davis – Haren 1.00 ERA over last four starts.

Cecil @
Lackey – Cecil a bit risky coming off blowup vs. TB but I’ll take the gamble.

Carrasco @
Davies – Carrasco dominant so far and great matchup.

Scherzer @ Jackson

Anderson @
Blackburn – Blackburn a viable option but I’m worried that the wheels are about to fall off.

Wilson @ King
Felix

Kennedy @
Burres

Marquis @
Oswalt

Hanson @
Niese
– Niese a little inconsistent lately so be careful here.

Dempster @
Sanabia

Cueto @
Wandy

Latos @
Lohse

Jimenez @
Kuroda

Wolf @
Bumgarner – Wolf solid of late and I like the matchup.

Hey Guys,

David Murphy is available on the wire. He is been very hot latetly, and with Ham,ilton out, he shoudl stay batting 3rd. Should i pick him for one of the followings: Lind, Byrd, Raburn or Manny?
Thanks a lot!!!!
Moises

Looking for some help,

Can you pick one of these three starters for Friday? I only need to start one for my head to head playoff matchup. (additional stats are HR, K/9, L)

Cueto @ HOU
Kennedy @ PIT
Haren @ TB

Thanks!

Moises,
Yeah, I do think Murphy is worth a pickup and would, believe it or not, drop Ramirez. With only a couple of weeks left in the season, we’re at the point where names should be thrown out the window, and the reality is that Manny has no homers and no RBIs since joining the White Sox. He’s clearly nearing the end.

chillaxin,

I’ll go with Kennedy…best matchup and 3 ER or less in each of his last six starts.
