Pitch or Ditch for Thursday, September 23
Pitch
or Ditch is a strategy for (ideally) daily mixed leagues in which you
pick up
starters on a day-to-day basis based on how well they are pitching and
their
upcoming matchups, then cut them in favor of new guys the next day. The
concept
is that the shallower the league, the more quality starting pitching is
available on the free agent wire, so rather than drafting expensive
starters,
it’s better to build a strong offense and bullpen and let the free agent
wire
populate your starting staff during the season. As a bonus, a handful of
“PoD”
guys emerge each year as worth keeping all year long, like Jair Jurrjens
last
year or Cliff Lee in ’08.

I’m asking the experts: I’m in a 5 player keeper league, My 1st 4 keepers are CAR-GO, BRAUN, TULOWITZKI, and KING FELIX…..I need to know,of the following three, WHO should my final keeper be?…… NELSON CRUZ, ADRIAN BELTRE, or BRANDON PHILLIPS.
dgrauf,
Despite his disappointing season, I’d go with Phillips, due in large part to the position scarcity factor. There are only so many second basemen who can go 20/20 on a yearly basis and Phillips is one of them. Cruz has had health issues for two straight years now and I cannot see Beltre duplicating his ’10 production in 2011, particularly in the AVG department. A career .275 hitter, he’s batting .324 this year. It just doesn’t add up.
