Pitch or Ditch for Saturday-Monday, September 10-12
ZACH’S PICKS
SATURDAY
VandenHurk @ Alvarez – Owners in deeper leagues should take a chance on Alvarez here.
Carmona @ Humber – Both struggling lately.
Swarzak @ Scherzer
Cahill @ Ogando – Ogando worth a shot vs. anemic A’s lineup.
Weiland @ Hellickson
Sabathia @ Haren
Paulino @ Pineda – Great spot to pitch Paulino
Wells @ Capuano – Capuano getting the job done at home this year and Wells is hot!
Arroyo @ White – This has all the makings of a slugfest.
An. Sanchez @ Locke – Anibal is settling down.
Wandy @ Lannan
Lee @ Wolf – Wolf has been inconsistent of late and it’s the Phils.
Lowe @ J. Garcia – Lowe in four career starts at the new Busch Stadium: 0-4 8.57 ERA 1.86 WHIP .371 BAA
Stauffer @ Miley – Stauffer too risky in this matchup. Miley an intriguing option but only in deeper leagues.
Kuroda @ Vogelsong
SUNDAY
Diamond @ Fister
Hunter @ McGowan
Lester @ Shields
Jimenez @ Stewart – Three straight quality starts for Ubaldo.
Harden @ Wilson – I don’t trust Harden here.
F. Garcia @ Big Erv – Freddy coming off shelling…I’ll pass.
Chen @ Vasquez – I’m giving Chen one more chance!
Vazquez @ McDonald – McDonald dominant since All-Star break (3.26 ERA 1.24 WHIP)
Sosa @ Strasburg
Worley @ Gallardo
T. Hudson @ Westbrook
Willis @ Pomeranz – Tough opening test for Pomeranz.
Lilly @ Bumgarner
LeBlanc @ Collmenter – Collmenter seems to be back on track.
Garza @ Batista
MONDAY
Niemann @ Britton – Niemann very mediocre lately…I’ll sit this one out.
Porcello @ Peavy
Pineiro @ Gonzalez – Not giving up on Gio.
Hughes @ King Felix – Still don’t trust Hughes, regardless of the matchup.
Lohse @ Lincoln – I like Lincoln but this isn’t the time to pitch him.
Lopez @ Leake – Leake close to being shut down.
Volstad @ Beachy
Wang @ Dickey – Dickey en fuego since All-Star break: 3.24 ERA 1.16 WHIP
Oswalt @ Myers
Saunders @ Eveland
Harang @ Surkamp – Surkamp a worthy play in NL-only leagues.

Coming out of bye week into 2nd round of playoffs I have sone serious health concerns: Stanton, Cruz, & Choo all banged up and not looking like they’ll help me this round. Options are: Jason Bay, Omar Infante, Francour, J Jay, J Reddick, or Pagan. Not exactly cream of the crop but I’m looking for hottest bat that can conitinue…I’m thinking either Reddick or Francour cuz I’m very thin in RF now.
I don’t need any specific categories…just someone who won’t kill me and can help the cause!
Thanks as always,
Josh A
Josh,
Bay is hot right now (.357 AVG 3 HR 12 RBI in September) but Francoeur is equally hot (.341 AVG 3 HR 9 RBI in September) and is also very streaky, so I have no problem with you going with him if you need a RF as opposed to a LF.
Zach
Im in a binder for pitching this week. Im in the Semis Finals – Who is more of a sure thing – Harang @ Surkamp ( Giants ) or Saunders @ Dodgers ????
Anthony,
I prefer Harang. He’s been more consistent on the whole this year, strikes out more guys than Saunders does, and the Giants lineup is weaker than the Dodgers lineup.
Zach
Options available for tmrw: Harrison vs Cle, Leake Vs ChC, Minor vs Fla, Dempster @ Cin or J Williams @ Oak.
what do you think? Which should I pick up?
Shud I keep any of them after start tmrw? minor?
Thanks as always,
Josh A
Josh,
The only one of those that I don’t like is Dempster. The other three are definitely worthy starts. See how it goes before deciding who to keep beyond tomorrow.
