Updated PoD Category Chart (5/22)
Hey everyone,
A lot can change in two weeks. Here’s the second and final May version of our Pitch or Ditch category chart. More demotions than promotions this time around.
Pitch or Ditch Category Chart 5-22
Once again, a reminder as to how the chart works:
We’ve divided all of the current starting rotation pitchers in the Majors into five groups: Aces, Grads (pitchers who you should be starting regardless of the matchup), Pitch or Ditch (guys who you should be picking up to start in favorable matchups but do not deserve a regular roster spot), DTMs (guys who we are fed up with and would not start under any circumstances for the time being) and Indifferents (guys who we don’t feel any ill-will towards but who just aren’t that good). Keep in mind that these classifications are very much subject to change throughout the season based on performance. We’ll be updating the chart every other Monday.
And here are the changes we’ve made since the last version:
PROMOTIONS
Cueto grad to ace
Bumgarner grad to ace
McDonald PoD to grad
Capuano PoD to grad
Estrada indifferent to PoD
Hutchison indifferent to PoD
Ross indifferent to PoD
White indifferent to PoD
DEMOTIONS
Lincecum ace to grad
Wainwright ace to grad
Kennedy ace to grad
Moore grad to PoD
Masterson grad to PoD
Smyly grad to PoD
Cahill grad to PoD

Buchholz PoD to DTM
Let us know what you think!

rookie question here, I know, but you’re assumptions are all based on vanilla 12-team, mixed and should be adjusted to league format, correct?
Yes, these are geared towards 12-team mixed leagues, so adjust accordingly.
Zach
Who do you like better? Alvarez, Capuano fresh from his recent promotion to Grad status, or Parker who just got demoted to PoD? (My real question is Alvarez or Capuano? I’m looking to get rid of Parker to have a lineup of grads or better only).
Glenn–NY
Glenn,
Well, Parker earned back some of my trust yesterday and he can very well become a grad again on our next chart, but I really like what Capuano’s been doing all year, strikeout rate included (50 K’s in 56 IP). I’d go with him. He’s been extremely consistent too.
Zach
Ok mega deal, which side do you go with (five year keeper)?
A: Bauer (1$), Fielder (27$), Gallardo (23$), Santos (13$)
B: C. Lee (16$), Upton (23$), Storen (2$)
I’m sending the people in A and I am a big fan of Upton.
Joe,
Side B without question. Storen’s a far better keeper than Santos at those prices (I’d rather have him even if the prices were identical), Upton’s across the board contributions gives him the edge over Fielder (AND he’s 4 bucks cheaper), and Lee beats Gallardo easily.
Zach
Demoting Waino already?
T. Hudson has to only be a start away (as you feel not currently) to return to proper ACE standings. He is just a pro’s pro artist toeing the slab.
What say you?
-BDH
BDH,
I don’t know about ace just yet, as his general lack of K’s holds him back, but a grad without question.
