Pitch or Ditch for Thursday, September 12

MLB: Cleveland Indians at Philadelphia Phillies

Hughes @ W. Chen
Griffin @ Diamond – Griffin’s K’s and solid WHIP, and win potential, outweigh so-so ERA
Richards @ Happ – Richards somewhat erratic but Jays aren’t that scary
Peavy @ Hellickson – anybody’s guess what Hellickson will do
Kluber @ Danks – Kluber’s remaining schedule: at CWS, at KC, vs HOU, at MIN… NICE
Garcia @ Flynn
Roark @ Harang
Ross @ Halladay
Rusin @ Locke
Thornburg @ Kelly
Cain @ Greinke

so today someone dropped a few players…..cain/ f hernandez/ castro/ marte/ ryu to name a few Cain was taken and I took Marte…..you think S Marte will be playing soon again? what about Felix?

I’m not too confident that Marte will make much of an impact over the final two weeks of the regular season. It sounds like he’s not quite 100 percent and the Pirates are sure to take a cautious approach with him so that he’ll be healthy for the postseason. Felix, on the other hand, is someone I’d take a chance on, as even if he makes two more starts, those starts are valuable. Felix’s performance level relative to the average SP is greater than Marte’s value relative to the average OF. That’s how I see it.

Hey Zach,
What are your thoughts on Garza? He hasn’t been pitching as well as he did earlier in the season and not sure I can carry him through the playoffs. My other starters are Ryu, Nolasco, Sale, Gio, Zimmerman, and Holland. Also, I have been carrying two catchers all season: Pierzynski and Weiters. Should I drop Weiters to add another position player bat to the bench?
Rich D.

Yeah, Garza has been very mediocre of late and depending on your waiver wire options, I’m not totally opposed to making a switch there. I’d take any of your other SPs over him.

As for Wieters, I think I’d hold onto him. The AVG has been disappointing but he’s still producing in the power department. A catcher with his type of power upside is hard to find, and I wouldn’t want to drop him only to see one of your competitors add him. You have to consider keeping him as a defensive move as well.

The waiver wire shows: Travis Wood, Esmil Rogers, Yusmiero Petit, Ubaldo Jimenez, Scott Feldman, Sonny Gray, Dan Straily, Oberholtzer, Wacha, AJ Griffin, and Dillon Gee.

I don’t have a problem with you using that spot to play the SP with the best matchups.
