Pitch or Ditch for Wednesday, April 23

MLB: Philadelphia Phillies at Colorado Rockies

CORY’S PICKS

Perez @ Gray

Cosart @ Young

Pineda @ Lackey

Vargas @ Masterson – good matchup for Masterson to get right

Tillman @ McGowan

Rienzo @ Smyly

Pelfrey @ Odorizzi – the Twins lead MLB in walks and OBP. The Twins!

Eovaldi @ Harang – Harang’s hot start won’t last, but enjoy the ride

Miley @ Samardzija

Cain @ Chatwood – I’ll gamble on Chatwood’s groundball lean at home vs. a so-so offense

Weaver @ G. Gonzalez

Simon @ Morton – let’s ride the Simon train to the last stop

Wacha @ Niese

T. Ross @ Lohse

Hamels @ Greinke – if you drafted Hamels, you have to start him

***ZACH SAYS “Even though the matchup isn’t great, I wouldn’t be afraid to pitch Eovaldi. 3-for-4 in quality starts and 23-to-3 K/BB ratio. I like it! Don’t trust Morton at all vs. CIN. Miley not a terrible play in deeper leagues but in a 12-team mixed, I agree that it’s best to play it safe and ditch.”

Plse rank for ROS only, taking out the obvious advantage Mejia has since he is in MLB already…looking for best in era, WHIP & k/9.
Mejia
Trevor Bauer
Alex Meyer.

Thank you!

Jim,

Hard to ignore that “obvious advantage” since we’re talking about strictly 2014. It definitely plays a factor here. I’d order them Mejia, Bauer, Meyer.

offering Sandoval and L Cain or Sizemore for L Martin( Tex) am I making a fair offer or low balling……also have Gardner I could offer

Definitely a fair offer. I even think that Sandoval for Martin is fair.

Zach

i need another starter. is nuno worth trying? my 12 team waiver wire is thin. kyle kendrick, wei yen chen, colby lewis are options

I’d pass on Nuno for now, especially since his next start comes @BOS. All those waiver wire options are PoD guys, so I’d simply play the matchups in deciding who to pick up.

Zach

Just got offered Trumbo for Gallardo. Thoughts?

With Trumbo now on the DL and out indefinitely, you obviously can’t make that trade.

Zach

Which pitcher should I pick up, Wily Peralta or Marco Estrada, for the season? Thanks.

I’m a fan of Peralta but I have a little more confidence in Estrada long-term…higher strikeout upside and more seasoned in the big leagues.

Zach

big z-

i was offered freddie freeman for wainwright. i’ve got price, cingrani, burnett, buehrle & feldman. cuddyer (dl) and hosmer are my 1b platoon. worth giving up that arm for the supposed breakout season from freeman? or hold tight to waino?
thanks,
mmp

mmp,

Hmm, I think in your case I’d sit tight with Waino. I just wouldn’t have enough confidence in the rest of that staff sans Wainwright.

Zach

Hey Zach,
I have Santos and Gregerson but am not sure how much longer those two close. Am struggling in SP. There are a few guys who are hurting for saves in my league so I think I can get something from them. Would you go for a guy like Archie Bradley or should I shoot for someone established? Any ideas of guys I should try for? Since I don’t think they will be closing much longer should I be happy with anything I can get?

Gregerson might already be done as the closer after last night. As for Santos, it all depends on Janssen’s health. If you’re struggling in SP right now, I think it makes more sense to trade for someone established who can give you immediate help. Can’t hurt to send some offers out there and test the waters.

Zach

Zach,

Who would you drop to activate Cole Hamels?

Tim Hudson
Corey Kluber
Clay Buchholz
Mark Buehrle

Thank you,
Suzanne

Suzanne,

I’ll say Buehrle. He’s the one who is most due for a stat correction, and it could get ugly!

Zach
