ZACH’S PICKS

SATURDAY

Bauer @ Simon – Tough test for both but both have been lights out.

Arrieta @ DeSclafani

Volquez @ Danks – Volquez is deserving of this start but I’ll never trust him.

Harvey @ Sabathia – Sabathia decent so far but I’m sitting him vs. red-hot Mets.

Feldman @ Graveman – Graveman is a mess right now.

Strasburg @ Koehler – Not trusting Koehler in this matchup.

D. Norris @ TBD (TB) – Sticking with Norris for now.

Masterson @ W. Chen

Miller @ Buchanan

Wainwright @ Peralta – Peralta very erratic thus far and I don’t like this matchup.

Hudson @ J. De La Rosa – Sitting Hudson at Coors.

Burnett @ R. De La Rosa – Burnett a borderline call. His 2.00 ERA somewhat aided by good fortune.

McCarthy @ Kennedy – I’ll go for it with Kennedy in first start back.

Lewis @ Wilson – Wilson bounced back nicely his last time out but he still makes me too nervous.

May @ Paxton – Keep an eye on May in deeper formats. Paxton needs to earn back my trust.

SUNDAY

Carrasco @ Lobstein – Playing it safe with Lobstein, who has allowed too many baserunners to maintain his current 3.27 ERA.

T. Wood @ Marquis

G. Gonzalez @ Haren

Buehrle @ Archer – Buehrle worth consideration in deep mixed/AL-only leagues but he’s giving up a lot of hits.

Miley @ B. Norris – I’m expecting better results from Miley going forward but he’s too risky here.

Cahill @ Williams

Vargas @ Noesi

Lynn @ Fiers – Bench but don’t cut the struggling Fiers.

N. Martinez @ Santiago – As Cory likes to say, blue-plate special.

Wojciechowski @ Pomeranz – Not ultra-confident in Pomeranz but I’ll throw him out there.

Gibson @ Iwakuma – Very little upside with Gibson.

B. Anderson @ Morrow

Lincecum @ Matzek – Tiny Tim has been a pleasant surprise this year but no way am I chancing it at Coors.

Liriano @ Hellickson

Niese @ Eovaldi – Eovaldi pitching well enough to deserve a shot here.

MONDAY

Vargas @ Kluber

Ar. Sanchez @ Kelly – 9-to-12 K/BB ratio for Sanchez so far.

Fister @ Stults

Noesi @ Jimenez

Karns @ Warren – Warren could become mixed league relevant at some point this season, but not yet.

Nelson @ Marquis – Nelson outstanding his last time out vs. these same Reds.

Gee @ Cosart – Don’t forget about both of these guys though.

Walker @ Gallardo – This game could be 2-1 or 10-9. Pass.

Worley @ Hammel – Not giving up on Hammel but he’s been no better than mediocre.

Price @ Milone

Hamels @ Lackey

Matzek @ C. Anderson – Impressive results from Anderson so far.

Lincecum @ B. Anderson

McHugh @ Shields

I have to make a deal to free up roster space. I have a couple of players coming off DL and too many pitchers. I’m trying to evaluate their long term value.
Thoughts on my rotation:
Kluber, Kazmir, Salazar, Baur, Cashner, Smyly, & Odorizzi.

Thanks as always,
Josh

Cashner is off to a solid start but he’s also been injury prone and his career numbers suggest that he probably won’t continue striking out roughly a batter per inning. Yet there’s this perception that he’s an ace in the making. I don’t see it. I’m not dismissing the possibility of a quality season, but relative to market perception, I think he’s your best trade candidate.
