Zach here,

It’s been roughly a month since our last Pitch or Ditch category chart, which means it’s time for an updated version!

PoD Chart 6-3-16

For a number of years now, we have been posting these charts roughly once per month during the season, and longtime 411 fan Big Barry deserves a special acknowledgement for suggesting the framework of the idea. For those unfamiliar with the format, in an effort to help you make those all important Pitch or Ditch decisions and determine whether or not a certain player deserves to remain on your roster, we have divided all of the pitchers currently in starting rotations into four groups: Aces, Grads, PoD and Indifferent. Note that I’ve tweaked the definitions for this year, mainly lowering the bar for Grads. Also keep in mind that the chart is geared towards standard 12-team mixed leagues. And of course, a pitcher’s designation will likely fluctuate throughout the season (especially between PoD and Grad). With each updated version of the chart, we will list the changes made since the previous version.

Aces – Elite starters with the track record to prove it. These pitchers should be in your active lineups regardless of the matchup.

Grads – Pitchers who aren’t ace material but should not be dropped and should be started in the vast majority of matchups.

PoD – Consider adding these guys off the waiver wire to start in favorable matchups, but feel free to drop them afterwards if you need the roster spot.

Indifferent – These pitchers are too risky to trust in any matchup and should remain on the waiver wire.

Here are the notable changes since the last version from late-April:

Tillman PoD to grad
S. Wright PoD to grad
Eovaldi PoD to grad
Hill PoD to grad
McHugh PoD to grad
Roark PoD to grad
Pomeranz PoD to grad
Happ PoD to grad

Sabathia indifferent to PoD
Fister indifferent to PoD
Locke indifferent to PoD
Foltynewicz indifferent to PoD
T. Wilson indifferent to PoD

Keuchel ace to grad
Archer ace to grad

Pineda grad to PoD
Moore grad to PoD
Ventura grad to PoD
Eickhoff grad to PoD
Liriano grad to PoD
Corbin grad to PoD

Jimenez PoD to indifferent
Graveman PoD to indifferent

As usual, feel free to post your questions and/or comments.

Where does Garrett Richards fall on this?

He’s a Grad. In other words, he’s worth a DL stash in standard mixed leagues if you have the roster space.

Picked up McHugh and Wainwright but will need to drop one or Archer? I’m leaning on Archer. Also when L Martin returns may drop C Gomez if he does nothing this week

I’d drop McHugh. Still holding out hope for Archer! Hang onto Gomez for now. He’s starting to show some signs of life.

I’m considering dropping Gausman for Archie Bradley. Thoughts?

I still like both but I don’t have a big problem with that move.
