FEATURED QUESTION OF THE DAY
Aramis Ramirez on the DL and Mike Napoli at C (one C league). I flipped Lowe for Jenks, and now have the opportunity to flip Jenks or Franklin for Brandon Inge, who I would slot at 3B for the remainder of Ramirez's DL stint. First, am I on the right track? Closers are Nathan, Jenks, Franklin, Capps. Second, of the two, which closer if either is worth moving for Inge?
Jake in Oakland
Jake,
Cover up ERA and Jenks and Franklin are the same player, so not sure it matters which one you move for Inge. I trust Jenks more but hearing he may be on the block and who knows if he goes somewhere else to close. Franklin has been a huge surprise but I wouldn't be shocked if someone else gets the job second half (injury etc). Go with your gut. You can afford to lose the closer.

Hey Fellas,
Taking out the trash today. Who gets kicked to the curb: Latroy Hawkins or Joel Hanrahan? Trying to keep the one with the best chances at accumulating saves for rest of the year.
Thanks!

Ye ole voices of reason, I'd like to know your thoughts on this trade proposal. (standard mixed 8 team daily league. we keep 1 player for next season and it won't be any of these guys for me).
Get:
R. Martin
J. Soria
Give:
J. Bartlett
J. Peavy
I currently have Sandoval at C with Doumit on DL.
Broxton, Fuentes, Street, Madsen as Closers.
Drew and Hairston, Jr. for SS.
Cain, Burnett, J.Johnson, Danks, Garza, Volstad , and Kershaw(traded Qualls to same guy for him) at SP.
My thoughts: Sandoval is doing fine for me, and saves are obviously not an issue. Drew is improving. My starters are solid. I'm not totally sold Martin will regain form and not sure Bartlett can keep pace. I still like what Peavy offers after his stint on DL.
Big Thanks.

Quick Trade Question.
I was offered a trade in which I would give Adam Lind and get Javier Vazquez. Adam Lind is currently my fifth outfielder, behind Nate McLouth, Jacoby Ellsbury, Torii Hunter and Johnny Damon. Marlon Byrd would replace him. However, I'm afraid Javier Vazquez is a sell high. Is it worth pulling the trigger?
Thanks

Hey guys
Quick question for ya
I Have Holliday and C Lee in the line up this week in the OF and need to decide who to play between Lind (3@PHI 3@WAS) and Werth 6 @ home against TOR and BAL)
I think werth is getting hot and might go off this week while hes at home but Lind is pretty steady.
Just wondering your thoughts for the upcoming week
H2H points league, 12 teams
Cheers

I got offered Adrian Gonzalez(or Justin Morneau) & Josh Beckett for Dan Uggla and Jason Bay.
Who would you target Adrian or Justin?
I have Arron Hill as my util now. I think based on his 2007 numbers he is a 10 homer drop off but .40-.50 points in average upside. And the blue Jays offesne is decent this year. I can slide Coery Hart(Until Manny gets back) into my Outfield slot and put the spare 1b into a Util spot.
Is Beckett okay or would you target Josh Johnson or Matt Garza? I need save so the other option is targeting Trevor Hoffman?

Guys-
I am in a 12 team mixed roto league, and my SS is Furcal. The dude has been a disappointment this season to say the least. The waiver wire is fairly thin, but guys like Alberto Callipso and Elvis Andrus are there. What do you think of Furcal for the rest of the season? Is he droppable in a 12 team mixed league?
Thanks-

Hey guys,
As of late, I've been a victim of inconsistant pitching. I've been able to get quality starts from half of my staff, but the pitchers really giving me problems are Liriano, Ervin Santana, and Lacky. Is there a pitcher you have in mind that would be a consistant but not lights out pitcher which I might aquire for a modest price?
thanks,
Phil

Hey Guys,
I am a Reyes owner....I'm currently using Furcal to bridge the gap until Reyes comes back. However, I've been offered Tejada for Jered Weaver. WOuld you do this trade? Or would you just keep using Furcal until Reyes comes back. My other starting pitchers are: Grienke, Wandy, Jair Jurgens, Ted Lilly, Scott Baker, Ubaldo, and Slowey. Thanks!

Trade question- I know getting the 1 in a 2 for 1 is generally the right answer but thoughts would be appreciated on the following deal- Cliff Lee and Todd Helton for Prince Fielder. 5X5, 12- team mixed, H2H where I have a strong pitching staff and am light in HR/RBI.

OG,
While I think Hanrahan has the better chance of getting saves but I'm honestly fed up with him. He's already lost the job multiple times and that situation in Washington is such a mess. I think it's a wise idea to hold onto Hawkins for another week or two until we're convinced that Valverde is all the way back.

pharis,
Still not totally sure which side you're getting here but I like Martin/Soria. I'm not really sold on Bartlett either and think Martin will bounce back somewhat. The key here is Peavy, who according to reports can miss as much as three months. He's just not worth the risk right now, even if you can get him at a discount.
****************************************************************
Davis,
Yeah, I'd take Vazquez there. Not thrilled about playing Byrd as a regular starter but your top four OFs are very solid and I think you can afford the loss of Lind. It's true that Vazquez likely won't keep this level of production up, but he'll always give you Ks. If Javy can maintain an ERA around 3.75 by year's end to go along with 200+ strikeouts, it'll be well worth it.
******************************************************************
Jordan,
Werth is my pick too...just the safer play in my mind. Not sure how important steals are in your H2H league, but he obviously has the advantage there. Lind has been great all year but he is 1 for his last 15. Just a hunch, but I think Werth has the least chance of disappointing you.
***********************************************************
elraf,
Tough call between those two 1Bs but I'll go Morneau. Love Adrian but Morneau simply has the better supporting cast and home ballpark. I like Beckett the most of those SPs...still the highest upside. It's fine to try to trade for a closer but Beckett is a better SP than Hoffman is a closer at this stage in his career. Take the starter and maybe think about a closer in another deal. Have no clue why that guy is so hot for Uggla and his ugly average (no pun intended!)
***************************************************************
KC,
Nope, Furcal is definitely not droppable, especially for those waiver wire guys. I know it's tough but let's give him some more time. He's clearly not the player he once was but he's not this bad either! Also, Furcal is traditionally a much better second half player so let's see.
**********************************************************
Phil,
Hard to name a certain guy but what I'd do is look back on the preseason SP rankings and list a few names who (A) were ranked fairly high, (B) have a solid track record, (C) have yet to live up to expectations, and (D) currently have no health concerns. That should give you a start. Ask around and try to find out who might be available in your league. Sometimes, owners let their emotions take over and make a trade they'll later regret. Take advantage.

Do you see W. Abreu in the save mix in TBY? Thanks.

chicagobil,
I know I might be going against the normal 411 philosophy here but I'd pass. Weaver's just been too impressive to deal for a mid-tier SS who you won't even need once Reyes returns. As long as Reyes comes back relatively soon, I'd continue to trot out Furcal and hold onto Weaver.

dstern (I assume not the NBA commish?),
This isn't an absolute slam dunk (notice the basketball reference) but I'd go with Prince. He's the best player in the deal and losing Lee in exchange for the upgrade from Helton to Prince sounds like a good trade to me.

Rob,
Not at this point but with Maddon who knows? There are so many potential TB closers that I'm just giving up on trying to sort it all out. If possible, this is a situation to avoid in mixed leagues. You'd have to commit 5-6 roster slots just to get saves from one team. Not good.

Zach...thanks for the advice...I think that's they way I was thinking. Can Siano or Cory chime in since you say it is contrary to the '411-Philosophy'...

Hey Guys... so I've lost 3 of my first 4 picks (Reyes, Peavy, & ARam) in my NL only league. I've somehow managed to stay in first but with our limited bench spots, I'm still starting Reyes at SS. I proposed a trade where I get Rollins & Soto for McCann & Maholm. He countered with McCann & Cain. So we're trying to come to a decision on the final pitcher... my pitching staff is: Peavy (IR), Maholm, Cain, Lowe, Carpenter, Hamels, Scherzer, & Nolasco. Which pitcher should I offer?
Also, what do you think of buying low on Rollins & Soto? When Reyes comes back I can slot him into my 2b/ss spot which is currently occupied by Felipe Lopez.

manoman,
I'd rather trade Tulo. Drew is hitting .346 so far in June and looks to be back on track after a slow start to the season. Like Drew, Tulo has also struggled to hit consistently and I'm more concerned about him considering his disappointing '08 campaign.
And yes, I'd do Tulo/Young/Quentin for Wieters/Upton. B.J. is at least starting to hit a little better. With the uncertainty surrounding Quentin's return date, it's worth a shot.

itaintsoto,
I like the idea of buying low on Rollins and Soto but I think giving up McCann and Cain is too much. Cain and Hamels would be the two pitchers I wouldn't put in that package. Carpenter is a close one but I'd probably do it considering his injury history. Start with Lowe or Scherzer. That's fair value.

Thanks Zach... was able to pull off the trade for Rollins & Soto by giving up McCann, Maholm, and Lopez. :) Call me a good negotiator... :) In all honesty, I was taking the risk and giving up players that have already performed this year. Now I hope Rollins and Soto (my namesake) start hitting!
