Fantasy 411 Q&A: June 16, 2009
Zach here,
Not since February has a night been as devoid of baseball as it was last night. Only two games! One thing I realized is that I spend an unhealthy amount of time checking box scores. I'll try to limit that going forward, but I have a feeling that like a New Year's resolution, my effort won't last more than a couple of hours.
Today's podcast will cover the big time performances by Prince and Choo, Big Erv's injury setback and more.
Fire away with your questions.

Help Me, if you can. What is the deal with Votto? Do you guys know when he will return? I own him in several leagues and need that position.

16-team, very deep mixed 7x7 auction. We have a separate auction for 10 minor league spots; minor leaguers who are brought up have very cheap contracts for 3 years. For example, Hamilton is $3 in his 3rd year.
I'm sitting in 12th place with no shot, so I am rebuilding by trading off my non-keeper veterans (Utley, Hamels, Sizemore, Hart, Garza, Lidge, Rivera) for cheap keepers and high-end prospects. In that type of situation, what would you think about trading Matt Garza ($15) for Logan Morrision?

hey guys,
which package do you like better?
pablo (C) + valverde
or
inge (C) + capps
i have inge and capps and i'm thinking about dealing for pablo. i realize this might be a downgrade in power, but i'm kinda hurting in avg and i know inge doesn't help there. i'm also a little worried about valverde's health and if he gets traded to a team with another closer. should i keep inge or deal for pablo (pablo is going off, by the way, another ridiculous day yesterday).
thanks guys,
moose

Hey guys,
H2H Vanilla Categories. I'm wondering if I should be trying to sell Lackey given his strong performance last night and hope people don't notice it was against the Giants at AT&T or if I should just take it as a sign of him turning around. If I were to sell him, what do you think an acceptable return would be?
Thanks and keep up the awesome work (and your twitter feed),
Matthew

Guys,
Standard 5x5, 10 team, mixed league. Which of these outfielders should go: Cameron, Bourn, Pierre, Span, Scott, Drew?
I have Ibanez locked in and Manny waiting on the bench--been trying to make up ground in SBs while Manny's out (I'm actually still leading the league in both HRs and RBIs).

Quick trade question:
14 team 6x6 league with OPS the extra hitting category. Been offered Pedroia in a straight-up trade for Gallardo. Do you think Pedroia will improve his power in the 2nd half? Should I just get on and accept the trade anyway? If I do, Zobrist will move from 2B to SS, allowing me to bench JJ Hardy for the time being, and I have enough pitching to cope with the loss of Gallardo.
Cheers!
Chris

mwilmoth,
The latest news I've heard is that Votto is working out on his own inj Cincy but there's still no set date for a possible rehab. Sounds like this might be awhile longer. Sorry to say there's really nothing you can do...can't drop him and his trade value is nonexistent.

moose,
I'll go with Pablo/Valverde. Inge is very streaky and I think he's playing above his head this year...never been a big fan of him. Would definitely give the edge to Sandoval there. I like Capps but it's not like he's the model of durability either. I'm willing to take the gamble that Valverde is healthy.

Matthew,
I'd be willing to trade anyone for the right return but I still don't see you getting fair value for Lackey right now. I'd hold onto him. I think last night was an encouraging sign and if you want to trade him in a few weeks if/when his value goes up, you have that option.

horganb,
Wow, tough call. Would normally say Pierre as we know he'll return to reserve duty once Manny comes back but if you're making an effort to stack up on SBs in the meantime, I'll say cut Cameron. He's not running and will do pretty much the same thing as Drew and Scott except that he's an AVG liability.

Chris,
Do it! I think Pedroia does improve his power as the year goes on but even if he doesn't he gives you enough in AVG and Runs to make this deal worthwhile.

Cheers, Zach, that confirms what I thought. Sometimes a trade looks so good I can tend to over-analyse it to see if there's some hidden flaw!

Mark Reynolds is available and seems too good to leave for someone else to grab. Of course, the problem is who to drop. I'm in a shallow H2H league with rare trade opportunities.
At 1st I have Albert and Wright is at 3rd. OF is Ibanez, Carlos Lee, Kemp, BJ Upton, and Holliday. I'm down to the minimum SPs already.
I am picking up Rollins in a trade and currently have Bartlett.
So, drop Holliday or Bartlett to grab Reynolds?

mdquinn,
Unless you work a 2 for 1 trade to clear out a roster spot, I don't really see many ways you can make this pickup.Holliday should never be dropped, especially considering that a midseason trade to a contender could enhance his value. I'd maybe consider dropping Bartlett but simply put, he's been too good...certainly a great fallback option from Rollins. I also think an MI who can contribute in both power and speed is more valuable than a CI who can do the same thing. I like Reynolds, but at the same time he's still striking out a ton, making his .281 average somewhat of an anomaly. I know it's frustrating, but your hands are pretty much tied here.

Im in a 12 team h2h keeper league. I was offered a trade, should I accept it? I get Dice-K and give up A. Gordon.

killahz,
Fair value. Really depends on what your needs are but I'd lean towards Gordon. It's tough to trade a guy who is playing right now for someone who isn't expected back for another month, but Dice-K has shown me absolutely nothing this year. Maybe all that wear and tear on his arm is finally catching up to him. He clearly won't be this bad all season, but I still like Gordon's upside.
