Fantasy 411 Q&A: June 24, 2009
Hey everyone,
Nice to see Joey Votto back in action last night. He was clearly rusty, going 1-for-4 with two strikeouts, but we all know the guy can hit. I think those of you who resisted the urge to deal him at a discount will be rewarded big time.
Siano and Gottlieb on today's podcast. They'll talk Votto, Hanson, Price, and Sizemore.

Hey guys,
First off, I need your blessing on a trade I pulled off yesterday in my 12 team H2H league. I traded Bartlett and Luke Scott and got C. Guzman and Sizemore. I know Guzman is an empty average hitter but I thought it was worth that downgrade to upgrade to Sizemore in my OF. What do you think?
Second, would you drop Fred Lewis for any of the following: Fukudome, Delmon Young. Ben Francisco, Jake Fox, or Mayberry. Extra offensive categories are H, K, BB, SLG on top of the normal five. Thanks for the help!

Hey guys....I was offered Stephen Drew for Choo. I have Jose Reyes on the DL and am currently starting Furcal...so I would be upgrading from Furcal to Drew.

ok in my other 10team h2h (in which I also would like to upgrade some bad closers) I got this trade offer
rollins
kevin gregg
for
broxton
weiters
martin is my catcher and I also have troy tulowhateverski at ss. do you think this trade would upgrade my closer and catcher enough to be worth what will (eventually) be a downgrade at ss?

Everett,
In my mind, that trade is a no-brainer. You gave up value but I like Bartlett as a sell high candidate and Sizemore is without question the best player in the deal.
As for Lewis, he's been a very frustrating to own in that he's putting up mediocre numbers in most categories. But Lewis is still on pace to score 80 or so runs and owns an everyday spot in the Giants lineup. I prefer him over those waiver wire guys.

chicagobil,
Pass. Furcal to Drew is an upgrade but not enough of an upgrade to warrant losing Choo. And then there's the Reyes return factor. What would you do with Drew once Reyes comes back? It just doesn't add up.

Another Mike,
I still have faith in Rollins rebounding, so I wouldn't do that deal. You already have Martin at catcher so the addition of Wieters seems unnecessary. And it's not like Gregg has been awful...a few blowups but his closer job appears secure. I'm not a big Tulo guy, especially due to his lack of steals, so I don't think owning him should greatly influence this decision.

Hi guys,
I'd love a second opinion on a trade I'm considering. I'm in an H2H points league, where starting pitchers are worth a little more than in H2H roto.
I got offered McLouth for Wainwright. I've got holes at CF and UTIL (right now playing Reimold and a matchups guy, respectively) and a bunch of pitchers--my other starters are Verlander, Liriano, Nolasco, Baker, Hanson, Harden, and Danks.
I like the trade, but I'm a little skittish because of McLouth's swoon in the second half last year, and the fact that he's behind that pace so far this year.
So do I pull the trigger on McLouth? Will he get back to '08 first-half McLouth this year?.
Thanks

Hey guys, looking for a sanity check on a couple trade offers and a roster crunch. Trying to get M-Cab to bolster 3B/1B. First offered Hill, Cain and Reimold for M-Cab and Danks which he has sat on for a week. Just offered Hill, Scherzer and Reimold for just M-Cab which I am not certain he will buy either. I think these are both reasonable, but he asked for Hill and Cain straight up for M-Cab. Is this too much to give my offense a boost without damaging my rotation too much? Also have some roster issues coming up with Smoltz and Kazmir coming off the DL soon. Looking at cutting bait on Webb to add a DL stashee (Chris R Young, Dice-K, Hudson, Manny Corpas, Wagner, others available) , then grabbing another after a 2 (or more) for one trade. Is this sensible, or should I sacrifice Reimold for Young to keep waiting on Webb? Would have to make those moves before Smoltz (and maybe Kazmir) comes off tomorrow in order to use the DL spots efficiently. Thanks. - Jake in Columbus

Zach, what if instead of Gregg I offered Kerry Wood? I'm also first in steals because of my other players... Just want to be completely sure here before I pass.

In my 12 team h2h mixed league I have 3 OF spots and a utility spot. I have 5 OFs and Brandon Inge to fit in my lineup. I have Kemp, Soriano, B.J. Upton, Crawford, and now Sizemore. Who should I start and who should I sit? Right now I have Kemp, Sizemore, and Crawford starting with Soriano at Util. Should I consider trading one of them?

Another Mike,
Subbing in Wood makes it better, but I'd still be hesitant to deal Rollins. Not a terrible trade and I totally understand why you'd consider it. What if you got someone other than Weiters? Perhaps at another position? I think of it like you're unloading Martin as well with the acquisition of Weiters. But you know your team better than I do...just my two cents.

Thanks for the blessing on the trade, Zach. What should I do with David Wright? The lack of power is killing me. Should I be patient and ride it out or do I trade him while he's hitting .340 for ARam plus a #4-5 OF/SP or something along those lines?

Guys-
I have David Price in several leagues, and the guy has 0 quality starts this season. If the league is not a keeper, would you drop him for the likes of Ricky Nolasco, Francisco Liriano, or Andy Pettitte? How about if it is a 12 team roto league that has 3 keepers? My squad already has guys like Johan, ARod, Kinsler, Crawford, and others so I doubt I would keep Price. Also, Andre Ethier was inexplicably dropped in one of my 10 team H2H leagues, and I could pick him up and cut Price. I don't need the bat, but is Ethier too valuable to pass up?
Thanks-
KC

Hey Guys....what are your thoughts on A-Rod? I've been offered him for Grienke straight up. Thanks!

12 team roto mixed keeper. There are a few teams looking for keepers. I've got Arod and Tex as top keepers, but have a legit chance to three-peat this year. Would you make either of these deals or would you hold out for more? I need HRs and SBs the most to move up.
Tex for Cruz and Youk
Arod for Adam Jones and Manny (or Granderson)

Keep up the great work guys. Quick question on ARod. Is he expected to be fully healthy to start the 2010 season after surgery this off season? Or do they expect his recovery to extend into next season? I am in last place in a 12 team mixed vanilla. I have an opportunity to flip Broxton & a throw in for Halladay who I could flip (with Branyan) for ARod. I could keep him for just next season. I realize I would be giving up a lot of value in Broxton, Branyan and a throw in for ARod, but I believe it would make sense if he was expected to start next season healthy. Thank you very much! Nico,
Yeah, I think you have to do that deal. McLouth's average is nothing special but he's still putting up solid power/speed numbers. I'm not sure if he goes back to performing like he did in the first half last year but the move away from Pittsburgh certainly doesn't hurt. The reality is that you need a CF much more than you need a SP, so the move makes sense.

Jake,
You've got tons of pitching there, especially if Smoltz proves healthy and Kazmir returns soon, so I'd do any one of those deals, including the last one.
Tough to dump Webb until we know for sure he's out for the year but it appears very likely so I'd take the small risk and drop him.

killahz,
Absolutely look to deal one of those guys. It will be a real pain deciding who to start every day...might even drive you insane! I think your lineup construction with benching Upton is fine for now but be open to trading any one of those OFs, the sooner the better.

Everett,
I'm not totally adverse to trading Wright, especially now with the loss of Beltran, but not for an injured 3B and a fourth or fifth OF. While the power numbers aren't there, Wright is running, so he still has plenty of value. A-Ram is reportedly progressing in his rehab but it sounds like he won't be back for another month. I just don't like that return.

KC,
I have no problem with you cutting Price in a non-keeper or even a keeper with a small number of keeper slots. Nolasco looked really good last night and I think he's a better option right now than Price, at least this season so I'd make that move. As for Ethier, he obviously doesn't belong on the wire. I'd cut Price for him too but it sounds like you need the pitcher more than the hitter so try to find another hitter to drop for Ethier.

chicagobil,
Do it. A-Rod's clearly struggling and remains somewhat of an injury risk but I'd take advantage of panicky A-Rod owners right now. Assuming your pitching is halfway decent, it's worth it. Greinke can't keep pitching like this forever!

Rob,
Always try to do better, but I actually like both of these deals...the A-Rod one a little more considering his injury concerns and the fact that both Jones and Granderson contribute in steals.

mreal,
Yes, I'm pretty confident A-Rod is 100 percent next year and I think doing those deals are risks worth taking.
