Pitch or Ditch for Thursday, June 18

CORY'S PICKS

Stammen @ ***Chamberlain

Duke @ Blackburn

Livan @ Berken

Nolasco @ ***Lester (Nolasco's last two starts are encouraging, but not at Boston)

Backe @ Padilla

***Haren @ ***Hochevar

***Hanson @ Maloney

Janssen @ ***Blanton

***Floyd @ ***Zambrano

Garza @ Jimenez (full disclosure: I like Garza but I'm worried about his recent control troubles and would rather play it safe in Coors)

Morrow @ Geer

***Porcello @ ***Pineiro

Mazzaro @ ***Wolf

***Siano says "Pitch Duke and Blackburn...they have been solid as of late."

"If I owned Garza I'd probably run him out there and in a 12 teamer he's hard to bench, but 11 teams or under may not be the worst idea to sit him."

"I will be at Hanson vs. Maloney, full report to come at a later date."

With Halladay on DL, and Bedard (who I just picked up in a trade) on the shelf, I need to grab a starting pitcher.
Who do I choose (and do I drop Bedard for any of them)?>
Slowey, Lowe, or Meche.
Thanks!
Mark

I have Haren, Blackburn, Duke, Hanson, Porcello and Zimmermann available to start tomorrow. Could start 4 but not sure if I should only start Haren, Blackburn and one other. HTH league. Also since I have so many Pitchers on the same schedule would it be wise to trade 1 or 2 for a SP on a different schedule.

Thanks for the help.

Hey Guys,

In a 15 tm mixed non-keeper would you drop either David Murphy or DeJesus for Scott Hairston who seems to be coming off the DL anyday now?

Thanks,
Neighbor Steve

watsup guys?
in a 5 by 5, 12 team mixed keeper league. I am doing really bad in pitching (last in era and whip) and i just lost lidge to the dl. i hav somewhat of a surplus of outfielders, i was offered james shields and trevor hoffman for curtis granderson. i would replace granderson in my utility spot with either yunel escobar, chris ianneta or melky cabrera. What do u guys think about this trade?
Thanks, Max

Hey Guys,
In a 2 catcher, 14 team, deep league. I know we typically don't like moving a bat for an arm, but would you consider moving Napoli (other catchers are Posada and Wieters) for Peavy? It's nice to have a good back-up catcher for off days but...it's Peavy. Obviously I do this if Peavy's healthy, just not sure what to expect from him for the rest of the year.

Thanks

Besides Halladay & Bedard, now I have Ibanez on the DL too. Does this change my add/drop strategy? I already have Albert, Utley, V-Mart, & Carlos Lee to help with home runs in my H2H league.
Both Hawpe & Calos Pena are available but I'm inclined to drop Bedard and pick up both Lowe and Slowey for now.
Please advise.
Thanks, Mark

Mark,

Slowey and Lowe would definitely be the two SPs I'd pick but at the same time Pena and Hawpe do not belong on any league's waiver wire. I have no clue why they were dropped. Who are you replacing Ibanez with? Hawpe seems like an ideal fit. I understand you might not have a spot open for Pena with Albert already at 1B but I'd still try to pick him up if possible to play at Utility. Would hate to cut Bedard but it sounds like you're really crunched when it comes to roster spots so that's fine. I'd pick up Lowe and Hawpe and try to clear out some more space for a possible Pena and/or Slowey add. Not sure if this is a daily, but you can also use a pitching slot for POD to make up for the lost innings. Let us know what happens...I'm intrigued.

wallyhalo,

Just answered your question on the previous q&a post.

Hey Steve,
I stick by DeJesus because of the speed factor. He won't hit as many homers, but he's a bit more dependable hitting overall and he should get to double-digit steals for the third straight year.

Hey Max,
Even Shields (3.52 ERA, 1.32 WHIP) for Granderson would make me think, so the bonus of Hoffman (1.31 ERA, 0.77 WHIP) is a good deal for you. People can talk about not trading hitters for pitchers until they're blue in the face (and they're usually right), but it doesn't look as if pitching could get worse for you. I'd put Iannetta at the utility spot, by the way.

Hey KC,
It sounds like a smart move in theory. I'd hold off, though. Cory Schwartz mentioned on Monday's Fantasy 411 show that it's not out of the realm of possibility for Peavy to miss the rest of the season. His injury is expected to keep him shelved for up to three months, so that, combined with the Padres possibly sinking in the standings, could affect the team's decision to bring him back. Again, that's not set in stone, but the possibility of Peavy missing so much -- or all -- of the remaining season would keep me from dealing a hitter who's fundamentally important in your league's format.

Hey guys,
I'm re-posting from yesterday's Q&A post. Hope that's ok. With Ibanez on DL, need a replacement OF with similar type of production. So not looking for Nyler Morgan. Guys available on the wire include: Rivera, Ross, Rasmus, Cuddyer and Drew. Who would be first, second choice?
B

B,

I'd rank them Drew, Rivera, Ross, Cuddyer, Rasmus with Cuddyer being an injury risk.
