Fantasy 411 Q&A: July 6, 2009
Hey guys,
Disappointed but a bit relieved. That's how owners of Chris Davis should feel with news of his demotion to Triple-A. No longer will they have to decide whether to start him or sit him, hold onto him or dump him. The decision has been made for them...by the Texas Rangers. At the big league level, a .202 average and .256 on-base percentage this late into the season simply doesn't cut it, no matter how much power potential you possess. Davis will probably get called up again before the season is over but he clearly belongs on the waiver wire in mixed leagues.
Today's podcast will cover the Davis demotion and the Scott Hairston trade to the A's.

Thanks for answering my another A-Ramirez question. I just figured out that I have A-Ramirez in my five leagues. I cannot really make a decision on this. Should I replace Casey Blake for A-Ramirez for 3B spot? I don't like seeing Casey Blake hitting home runs and A-Ramirez keeps getting 0 for 3 each game.

Ed,
Depends on whether or not you need power more than AVG but I'd lean towards Uggla...just very rare to find a 2B who can hit for that kind of power, and I find it hard to believe he's going to bat .223 all season.. However, if your AVG is really suffering I don't have a problem with you going with Cabrera.

Danny,
No, I'd run Bedard out there as long as he takes the mound. As I mentioned in the Pod post from this past weekend, I never like to bench top-tier players, even when they're coming off the DL. Bedard at 75 percent is better than most pitchers at 100 percent.

ideaf,
Since you already have Blake it's a tough call. Don't have a problem with you waiting a day or two just to make sure A-Ram is in the lineup and plays a full healthy game. But as long as A-Ram is playing, I think you have to go with him unless of course you can trade one of these 3Bs. That would be the ideal solution, but I know it's easier said than done.

Hi 411,
Upon Cory stat Schwartz's comment on the fire sell of Carlos Beltran, is a Beltran-Ichiro straight swap blessable? I'm dominating on every offensive category except AVG, and I can use a little bit of SB's.

How much is Tony Gwynn Jr. worth in a 12 team 5x5 NL only keeper league? What kind of numbers do you see him putting up next year? Just wondering if he is worth stashing as a possible keeper for next year.
And Kahil Greene? Is he worth holding on to? He is giving me a serious anxiety condition. I paid good bucks for him this year thinking he was going to have a good season. He and Encarnacion have really caused me buyers remorse this year.

Hey guys 3 semi-related questions.
I'm in a 12 Team H2H keeper (5) league I have Reyes on the DL and I'm using Zobrist at SS. I'm very strong in starting pitching (Verlander, Greinke, Burnett, Edwin Jackson, Joba, and Cueto) I need help in most offensive categories particuarly H, R, and SB. I had Alex Rios, Vernon Wells, Juan Rivera, Kendry Morales, Milton Bradley, and I just got Manny back. I just dealt Morales for Stephen Drew. First question: What do you think of this move?. I've also been offered a deal Zobrist and Burnett for Johnny Damon. Damon would fit well with my team and when Reyes returns I'll have a real log jam at SS. Second question: any word on Reyes? and third question: Should I take the Zobrist/Burnett for Damon Deal? should I possibly try to get more? Zobrist is cooling off but he's gotten a lot of attention and Burnett has been pitching pretty well, is this a reasonable deal or should I try to get a bit more? Also it should be noted that if I do the zobrist deal I'd likely pick up Ubaldo Jimenez (He's on the wire) to replace Burnett

recently made the following two trades in an nl only 13 team 5x5:
Mark Reynolds for Lincecum and Pelfrey and Edgar Gonzalez for Beimel and Freddy Sanchez. Is going for Beimel a decent gamble to acquire saves or did I over reach and give too much? I have a nice lead in all offensive cats except avg.

newnugget,
Yes, Beltran for Ichiro is a fine swap given your SB need. These two were comparable in value on draft day, so given Beltran's risk I think you're making out pretty well here.

Hey Larry,
Don't get too carried away with Gwynn; he's not the second-coming of his father. He hasn't displayed much power at either the Minor or Major League level and despite posting impressive stolen base totals early in his Minors career, he hasn't attempted many steals with the Padres. He's certainly not worth a keeper selection in standard leagues.
Release that anxiety by doing the same with Greene. The guy obviously is unreliable and a different shortstop/third base option should be pursued.

Hey Frankie,
Really great move to snag Drew. That guy is going to be a top 5 shortstop for at least the next few years.
Don't think you should pursue that Damon deal, it's too much. Doesn't Zobrist qualify as an outfielder in your league? He also has more pop than Damon and I'd rather keep his versatility on the roster.
Looks like Reyes will return after the All-Star break, but those hammy injuries can be quite unpredictable. It's a good thing you traded for Drew and have Zobrist as an ultimate fallback option.

Hi Montfusco,
Way to get Lincecum by selling high on Reynolds. He's been electric at the plate, but he'll fall into some deep slumps with that strikeout rate.
Normally I'd say that any owner trading for Beimel is over-reaching. But, my goodness, you traded Edgar Gonzalez -- and you also picked up Sanchez? Man, did that trade partner confuse Edgar with his brother, Adrian? Good deal for you even if Beimel doesn't notch many saves.

Howdy Keckk,
Not a bad pitch and ditch at all. He has 104 strikeouts in 88 innings split between Double-A and Triple-A. That's a positive stat for a southpaw going against a Rays squad in the top 10 in the Majors. It's just gonna be a pain to pronounce his name.
